The other day I adopted a kitten from my local animal shelter for my girlfriend’s upcoming birthday.
The only reason I’m mentioning it here is because his markings make him look a little bit like a skunk.
How I did it: I bought my skunk in a pet store I used to work at, so I knew a lot about them already. I flew him to my current residence though, which was a mistake...the airlines were not exactly comfortable with me toting him around in a carrier.
Most of the time was spent getting an apartment where I could keep him and saving the money, plus researching.
Lessons & tips: I live with someone else, and it takes both of us to care for him. I am in a very busy college program with a heavy load of work, and I would not be able to do it by myself. Also make sure you have the ample space, and they can get expensive, especially at the beginning (ie, they HAVE to be fixed and wormed). And I don't think people realize that there is more compromising with a skunk than, say, a dog. They still have such strong instincts and are so smart that not all of them can be trained away or ignored.
That being said, I spent the time I needed to when he was a baby, and now we are very close. He is a very good companion, quiet, and a good lap pet. And he has hair, not fur, so allergies are much more livable. I am still fascinated with my Hoagie after all this time (it's been about a year), and he is definitely something special.

I got a stuffed skunk. Not a dead one, but a fake one and the two of us are hitting it off pretty well.
I’m slightly annoyed. Apparently it’s not legal to own a skunk as a pet in the state of New York.
So, I guess this goal has to be put on hold until I move out of state. (Mass. maybe)
ive wanted a pet skunk ever since i watched a show on them on animal planet…. i want to name him flower, from bambi.
Apparently, they’re a lot like cats, in that they will use the litter box etc. I want one. I’m not sure if they’re legal in my state but I dont really care. I will have one. I dont want a traditional black and white one though. I want a brown one.
