    Almost.. 2 years ago

Windows have been done.. before plasticking we use “fingertip caulk,” which is removable and seals around the edges of the windows to effectively keep drafts out. This already makes a huge difference in our old, drafty house.
Just need to figure out what to do about the uninsulated little room off the kitchen. Need to prevent drafts from coming through the door that leads to it.. hmm.

6 windows down 2 years ago

    9 to go

Well, we didn't even start the windows this weekend 2 years ago

But we did get the water heater blanket out of the garage and put that in place around the water heater to insulate it, and we cleared all remaining boxes and junk out of the garage so we can finally park the car in there! I found my car windshield ice scrapers and the car emergency kit in case we get stuck or stranded in a blizzard, and put those in the back of the car.

This winter I'd love to get through every single window in the house, and cover them all in plastic 2 years ago

I don’t understand why this seems like such an insurmountable task each fall. Maybe I could even do them all today, if I focused. The good news: our new place has only 14 windows, compared to 17 in our last place.

Did the window with the missing storm windowpane 2 years ago

The one with the strongest breezes coming through it. Now I am stopping for the winter. I’ll do a better job next winter.

I did the upstairs, and waited for sweetie to do the downstairs 2 years ago

Months passed. Perhaps I should just accept this as my job next winter. But it’s such a big job! There are 7 windows done, and 10 to go.

Is it even worth doing anymore? Those kits are expensive, and might be put to better use next winter…

Anyway, I did one more window tonight. Frigid breezes are coming in other windows. The more I think about this, the guiltier I feel that I haven’t done it already. The beginning of winter is so hard, though, with all the craziness of the holidays. And once that’s over you need a month to catch your breath, and here you are, Valentine’s Day.

    Grr.

We got 6 of our 17 windows covered with plastic last weekend 3 years ago

Whew, this is going to be a big job! But well worth it. My goal is to have them all done by the end of the month.

or my room at least 4 years ago

it should be cozy & decluttered, with pillows and throws & enough good light and cds and dvds and be inviting to enjoy evenings and weekends…

Getting Ready for Winter 4 years ago

I live in an older home, so it is important every year that I make sure my windows are properly sealed around the edges, so I won’t get drafts. I also need to take the pump out of my swamp cooler, so it doesn’t freeze and bust this winter. It just seems like their are a million things to do before winter to make sure my heating bills are lower. I also think conserving energy is important, so I’m trying to make sure things I don’t use aren’t plugged in and I’m going to put a blanket around my water-heater. Stuff like this has been heavily weighing on my mind as of late with rising fuels costs and heat cost this winter, it seems important to do everything I can. Really everyone should be mindful of their energy use even if they aren’t on a budget.
