Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Post photos of signs I think are amusing, infuriating, have great double meanings, etc.

I’ve been meaning to post this one for a while (in fact, I think I’ve taken pics of it twice before!) but for some reason I’ve never gotten around to it. A recent pic posted by irishka3 reminded me to do it today ;)

I bought this sign at the estate sale for my friend Diana. It meant something to me not just because it was hanging in her house, but because it was the way that she lived her life. Her place wasn’t a disaster by any means, but some unfinished housework never kept Diana from making a river trip, or from spending time with her Australian Cattle Dogs (two of which were rescue dogs she had adopted).

As a reminder (and warning ;) ), I have this hanging where you can see it as soon as you enter my house.

And this is my second entry in a row that mentioned Diana. I see by the date on that entry I linked to that it’s 10 days shy of 4 years since her memorial service. Thinking of you and still missing you, dear friend. See you on the river.17 months ago

Not really a sign, but…

A piece of junk mail I received a few months ago. Really? You thought that the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (based in Washington D.C.) just might live at my house in Colorado?! 22 months ago

Oops, I forgot that I took this one. This was on a shop in the old section of the medium-sized town where I live.

“Wens” is bad enough as an abbreviation for Wednesday, but “Teus” for Tuesday? And you paid someone to paint this on your store window?! 2 years ago

I could have sworn that I posted this already, but if I did it wasn’t under the right goal!

This is a sign I saw next to the trail around the lake in Evergreen, CO. It seems pretty straightforward, but… 3 years ago

Again, not really a sign, but… It’s my goal, so I can include what I want ;)

This is painted on the wall of my local library. Love it!! I need to get this put on a plaque or something and hang it in my house :D3 years ago

Not exactly a sign, but close enough ;)

My sister has had this hanging in her house for years. I don’t know where she got it, but if you’re making crafts to sell, shouldn’t you at least spell the words correctly?!

Using an apostrophe -s for a plural (“friends,” means more than one friend, not “friend’s”) is already one of my pet grammar peeves, but using an apostrophe just because the base word itself ends in the letter -s? And if they really thought that “preciou’s” was correct, why didn’t they write “antique’s”?

This plaque would drive me nuts. I’d either have to fix it or toss it :D3 years ago

This sign, about a New Years Day special, has been posted in front of a business near me for at least 2 years.

Wouldn’t you think that a psychic should know that this isn’t going to be an effective marketing technique? ;)3 years ago

An interesting sign that I noticed while window shopping in Glenwood Springs, CO one evening near the end of my last vacation. 3 years ago
