I’m the kind of girl who wears minimal jewellery. Simply earrings and a ring. That’s it. But the ring that I wear is significant to me and it symbolizes my promise to myself to remain abstinent till I’m married. I just think a promise ring would really mean a lot (when he’s ready, of course) because it would be a constant reminder that I’ll always have him.
How to give or receive a promise ring
How I did it: This past Christmas was my very first Christmas with my boyfriend.....AND HE GOT ME A PROMISE RING (and a GIGANTIC teddy bear). I was ecstatic when I saw the bear (he gave me the teddy bear first) and then he pulled out a little blue box. I looked at it and thought, "No way. NOOOOOOOO way." And so I opened it and it's this GORGEOUS little promise ring. I absolutely love it. It's beautiful. The wait was definitely worth it and now I know just how much he loves me. :)
Lessons & tips:
- don't force the idea of a promise ring upon your significant other. When he/she is ready, he/she will get you one to signify his/her promise to you.
- I'm currently wearing mine on my right hand, middle finger. Traditionally, many people wear a promise ring on their left hand ring finger but since I'm still young, I didn't want other people thinking that I was married.

“In the case of romantic relationships, promise rings remind each bearer of the monogamous link to his or her partner. Once promise rings are exchanged, both people assume they can rely on the promise of the other to remain true. Promise rings often usher in the first serious relationship between young people. ”
