Bob MaucherIt’s About How Much I Spend, Not How Much I Earn
This goal is the one that will allow for so many of my other goals to be more easily reached. Time and geography are the two bottle-necks that are currently inhibiting me from going full-speed ahead to checking off more goals each day.
Both restrictions are there because of my job. I certainly enjoy what I do for a living, and I feel extremely blessed for the paycheck I bring home. However, I have no doubt I can find more fulfillment and happiness by running a website that helps people. The financial part is another story. I recognize the earning potential a successful website has, but unless I hit the right place at the right time, it will likely take a few months or years before I will fully replace my current income.
The reduction in income has kept me paralyzed for a year or two. But no longer. See, I have been looking at it through the wrong lens. It’s not all about how much I make. No, what matters is how much I spend. The way I see it, I can continue my current lifestyle (with a few tweaks) and continue paying off my debts on $5,000 a month.
$5,000 is all I need to earn to leave my current job, and begin my new life (career) as a website owner. I know there’s risk that I may have a $5,000 month and then a $1,000 month.
But I also have full confidence that I can recreate past successes in my life. Besides, what better to motivate me than the potential for no food in a given week? 2 years ago
