I have always wanted to join the military, but after high school i decided to go to a University instead of enlisting. Well after three years, I look back now and wish i had joined out of high school, but hey You live and learn! Originally i wanted to go Army, but after further research i want to join the navy and become a Hospital Corpseman and go to FMSS to become a Field medic! I gotta get my weight back to where it should be for my hieght, but as soon as I do that…Great Lakes here I come!!!
How to join the navy
How I did it: Did tons of research, not to mention soul-searching.
Went into the recruiter's office, and he helped me through the process.
It involves filling out a ton of paperwork at the recruiters office, then they send you to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) where you take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude BAttery) which is the standardized test of the military.
You also get a physical and are interviewed.
You sit down and talk with a classifier, get your job, sign the papers, then are sworn in.
Lessons & tips: Take it seriously. And then take the initiative to just DO IT. But before you do it, make sure you do a lot of research! Ask armed service members questions- people other than recruiters. Find out what jobs there are, and which you want and are qualified for.

Physical this monday and im officially in. Been drinking water like crazy to get the weed out of my system but i should be fine. One more step in achieving my goal! yay
Can you get PTSD from paperwork?
Still trying to join the Navy. Got to order social security cards and birth certificates and so on. Takes freakkin forever, man.
Finally figured out what job I want to do, though. I really want to get in, hope it works out. In theory it would really improve my self.
My next step toward this goal is to go to MEPPS and get my physical. I’m going this Saturday, at the wonderful hour of 5am. Which reminds me, I’d better get up earlier the rest of this week to be somewhat prepared! Luckily I already go to sleep around 10-11pm so I’m not that far off. I need 8 hours though, so that means in bed by 9, haha. The sun doesn’t go down until 830! Well I can be tired for the day, that’s ok too. It’s just a physical.
I should be having my PRT around the 21st, I’m slighly concerned about that. I know I can max out pushups and curlups, but the run will be outdoors and I’m not a fast runner indoors. It’s very hot here now, rarely gets below 80 degrees, and very humid too. I will be doing all my runs from not until then outdoors so I can try and get used to it.

I’m not going to think about the Navy again until after the Summer.
While I think it’s a great “quick-fix” to a lot of issues in my life, it certainly comes with a price. I would love to make my parents proud but do I have to join the military to do that??
I just want to see where this summer takes me. I’d like to research more about PSU & financial aid. I’ll need to establish residency. Maybe I’ll finally find a full-time gig (I’m back on the hunt). I’ll continue working out & getting physically ready (for anything). And, then, at the end of the summer I’ll see where I stand.
I love Portland and I love who I am here and I don’t want to leave. How hard will I work to keep it?

I stepped into a recruiting office in march with a friend who already enlisted and is doing his basic training in june. I took my ASVAB in the beginning of april and passed :) ...with a 60 tho…not all that great. lol. My recruiter showed me a bmi chart. I’m 5 feet and i currently weigh 160 and to reach my perfect body mass index i’m suppose to weigh 145. I;m planning on getting down to 130 at least. Low calorie intake, less carbs..more protein, ALOT of discipline, jogging, sit-ups/crunches, pushups, & swimming. I;m planning on doing my basic training in october. so, i have about 5 months to get to my goal :)

This isn’t official news from a recruiters mouth but I found a pretty extensive ‘joining the navy’ guide online and it has a chart for weight requirements to ship out to boot camp. For me, it looks like I would need to be about 163 pounds. Now, I haven’t been on a scale in quite some time but I would guess I weigh about 210. Uhhh…
50lbs??? I’m probably looking at 4-6 months to lose that!
Okay… I’m not going to panic but obviously I need a plan. I sure wish my friend’s recruiter would call me back!!
