I have always dreamed of being a librarian. I know it seems silly to some, but I love books and I love discussing books. I am looking into ways to get the schooling i need right now

I suppose it doesn’t classify as a real job since I didn’t get paid but I did a week of work experience at my town’s library. I didn’t enjoy it very much until the last day when I helped out with the kids craft afternoon. I love kids and books.

I’ve been feeling somewhat less enthusiastic about this lately. I’m sure a library is a better place to work than a coffee shop, but I’m really looking forward to working at Diabolo’s this year. To the point where I’m not sure if I’d even give it up if I got another offer.
It all depends on pay, hours, etc. (and I really, really doubt that I’m going to find a job with more flexible hours than this one) but the job I have now will give me lots of flexibility and lots of time to pursue academic and career-related goals. And as much as I’d like to be a librarian for a while, it’s not something I can see myself doing after I graduate.
I’m not giving this up yet, I’m just a little less certain.

Still no library job postings, but I just got a call from that campus coffee shop letting me know that I have been hired. I am way more excited than the tone of this entry might suggest.
Basically: library or no library, I have an on-campus job next year. Ladies and gentlemen, I am moving up in the world.

There’s nothing available right now, but hopefully new positions will open up in August or something. The real challenge will be to actually get hired.
I worked in a library while going to college, it was great because I was right there when I had to do research. I loved every part of the job, from helping people find things to unpacking boxes of just releashed brand new books.
A library is a wonderful place to work. If you like people there are so many chances to interact and to help people. or if you like detailed work in a back room you can be a cataloger. Since i have worked in libraries we have been on the cutting edge of computer technology. Libraries were the first places in towns or on campus to have a computer on every desk and to automate their work processes. we were also the first to recognize the potential of the internet.
My entrance into library work was fraught with struggles and even tears believe it or no.
I started my e-mailing the library manager of the library I am now at and asked if I could come in and talk with him. When I did go in, I volunteered my services but nothing ever came of it. My next step was to join a service that helps get people into employment via work-based training. The lovely lady there got me in at said library and there I worked (at no pay) for several months. Eventually a job became available but (and here’s where the tears come in) I didn’t get the job. I continued to work there for a little longer then left. However, working in a library was all I wanted to do and there weren’t any jobs going anywhere in town. About 7 months later another job was advertised at said library. I was extremely hesitant to apply and decided against it. On the last day of applications I was convinced to put in an application, and I did, and I got it.
It’s now 10 months later.
If you have a goal, and you know you must obtain it, you have to keep trying!
