Animal Sanctuary 7 months ago

All my life i have loved animals and have dreamed of helping them. I plan on going to college as soon as im done with high school to become a vet. I then hope on finding a place with a lot of land so i can open my own animal sanctuary.

Open an animal sanctuary 11 months ago

I start college in the fall and im going to work my way through vet school, i have been looking for the perfect plot of land about 200-250 acres. Im looking in the wyhoming or colorado area although i found some real pretty and appropriate land in mississippi. I intend to work with cats and dogs in one section taking in unwanted animals and then working to adopt them out. In another section i will be working with farm animals, hoping to adopt them out but being a sanctuary it will be home to every animal even if they can’t find there forever home. Eventually down the road i would like to even work with horses, Retired horses especially. Im going to apply to become non profit and will be a no kill shelter unless the animals are terminally ill. Im going to be looking for a board once im through with school so im hoping while im in school to make the necessary connections.

I want to help animals

Accomplishing my dream 2 years ago

I am getting ready to start school to become a Vet Tech., the first step in achieving my dream of opening an animal sanctuary. I will know how to properly take care of my animals and check over them myself. I am not sure on everything needed, legal wise, on how to go about starting this so any information, pointers, or ideas on the subject would be appreciated. I need all the information anyone could provide on all aspects of this endeavor. You can email me at hpefulone@aol.com also

Opening a sanctuary! 2 years ago

I have done this! For 5 years I was employed by a great Sanctuary. After much thought and another opportunity, I decided to leave. I took over a small privately run sanctuary that was run down, and in real bad shape. We have been here 3 years and the place is looking better. The animals are happier. We incorporated and a 501 C# tax exempt organization. Check us out. www.pieceofpeaceanimalsanctuary.org The website is still under construction and it is not professionally done. But, it will work for now.
At any rate, Ib would not recommend starting a sanctuary unless you are willing to work 24/7 and are really dedicated. But, if you are it is great! I also would not recommend taking over a shelter that is already over run and run down. Unless you are able to work on it for say 3 – 5 years before you can actually do what you want and save more animals. It is wiser in the long run to start from scratch, little by little and take in animals as you have space and money. We currently pay for everything out of our pockets for about 350 animals and do all the farm work along with working a paying job! So, again better to start from scratch. I just couldn’t not help these animals! Good Luck! Karen

Inspiration 2 years ago

Today I visited the John Greenleaf Whittier birthplace, which was originally a working farm. They had cows and goats there, and they were beautiful! The cows I admired from afar, and the goats I got to be near right up close. It was ethereal to look the cows in the face and know “I don’t eat your muscles or wear your skin or contribute to your suffering in the dairy industry. I am at peace here with you.” I can hardly wait till I have the opportunity to work and care for these beautiful beings on my own farm.

Don't breed or buy when stray pets die 3 years ago

When I lived in England I used to help out at my local animal sanctuary CAWS and I learnt a lot. I would spend my whole summers there and there were all kinds of animals. We had dogs, cats, rabbits and chinchillas. Two white donkeys, a naughty shetland called Dennis and a jersey cow. Every day was different, moving and rewarding. It has been my ambition for a long time to open my own animal sanctuary. I know it will be hard work, but I know it is something I have to do. I live in Sydney and an awful lot of dogs end up in the pound, as so many people impulse buy their pets in pet shops and then can’t look after them. If you go to PAWS website you will see there are already people trying to rescue these dogs who have 7 days to be rehomed or 14 days if they are microchipped before they are put down. My aim is to try and help some of these dogs, especially the older ones, or ones with special needs. Later on I would like to expand to a farmed animal sanctuary. I know it is a very expensive operation and a huge commitment, so I am currently trying to get savings together.

BIG DREAM!! 3 years ago

Nothing would be more worthwhile, and wonderful to me than buying a big piece of land and filling it rescued animals. I will start with dogs and work my way up to horses. I want do all that I can to make a difference to the cruelty, abuse, neglet and slaughter of our animal friends.
