Meet Millie 3 days ago

Sadly I can’t get a dog for myself at the moment while I am renting. However my sister recently lost her old lady Blue Heeler Trixie…
She sister decided she wanted a new family friend. She had been browsing in pet shops and in the paper, but I insisted she visit the animal adoption website petrescue.com This is where she found Millie the Bitsa. Millie was sent over from the other side of Australia where she had been abandoned and was looking for a family to love her. Now she is part of our family and gets lots of cuddles and spoiling every day. I look forward to being able to adopt my own doggy one day and admire people who adopt rather than supporting puppy mills and pet shops.

i want a dog 1 week ago

i am in love with king charles cavalier dogs – they’ve got the sweetest little faces. unfortunately, i can’t proceed with this goal until i move out of my apartment/area in general…which is another goal in itself. hopefully that’ll happen within the next year.

oh yeah, and i’d only get a rescue dog. :)

Whatever!!! 2 weeks ago

How dare JK tell me that I shouldn’t get another dog???? What the heck…like having 2 dogs would make me a hoarder? Just because you coundn’t or WOULDN’T take care of your dog does not mean that I can’t manage two dogs.

I’m sorry, but getting another dog DOES NOT mean I would love the one I have now any less. It is because I love him that I want to get him a sibling.

Its not like I am going to the damn pet store (I HATE PET STORES!!!!) and buying a puppy becuase it is ‘cute’....I have put serious thought into this. I have thought about it for over a year and have done my research and have been looking for the last three months for the perfect rescue dog to be a great companion for the dog I have now.

Sorry for venting…

Duncan 3 weeks ago

Duncan is our new dog, a big, solid, quiet, silky mass of canine love. He is all about the snuggling. He is in my lap right now, trying to pry my attention away from the computer. Our challenge will be not to spoil him horribly, because he is such a love muffin. He never barks, except in his sleep. In fact, I think Duncan gets most of his exercise in his dreams. He has his faults, of course, like trying to wake us up by placing his giant paw on our heads or pressing his chin down on our necks. He is also a master of passive resistance and becomes 72 pounds of dead weight when he doesn’t want to do something. But, overall, he is a gem and I’m so glad we have him. We are looking forward to taking Duncan to his first obedience class on Saturday. We will be learning clicker training, which is new for the humans and probably Duncan, too.

We still miss our Zeke terribly, of course. He was much more playful than Duncan, obsessed with Frisbee. For better and worse, Zeke was finely attuned to our emotional states. He was extremely, ridiculously smart. He hated it when we talked on the phone and usually barked. He wasn’t nearly as snuggly. I miss him a lot. Having Duncan helps.

Narrowed down the breeds that will work for us. We know that we want to adopt a shelter dog. Now I just have to be patient.

Not as easy as you may think! 1 month ago

This is harder than I thought it would be…Our first dog found us and was a great fit. He is so kind, gentle, and passive that we need to find a sibbling for him that won’t push him around. We have gone to a few adoption events and have not found a great match yet…Oh well, it is worth it to take our time with this goal!

count down 1 month ago

We are counting down to go visit the prospective dog. We are very excited here.

I’m hoping to get screens on the windows and the floor vacuumed before we go. We shall see.

new dog? 1 month ago

Friede and I have been shopping online for a dog for the past few weeks, mostly looking at listings on the sites of rescue organizations. On Saturday, a friend told us about another rescue organization. When we went to look at their site, we saw The Dog, or who we hope will prove to be The Dog. His description appeals to us more than any other. Friede talked to the foster parent yesterday, who confirmed what was in the online description. He seems to have the right mix of playfulness and mellowness, loves people, is a leaner, doesn’t bark much, and has a gentle personality. He is maybe some kind of lab/mastiff/misc mix and is about 72 pounds. The good news is that we get to meet him on Saturday! If all goes well (we like him, the foster parent likes us, etc.), we get to bring him home on Saturday!! Whooo! I know I shouldn’t count my chickens, but I have a really good feeling about this dog.
