How I did it: Like the millions of americans without healthcare, Ive neglected my health due to the high price of care. My one wisdom tooth was partially impacted and coming in for years. Sometimes it got infected so I knew I needed them out, but didnt want to spend the money. I toyed with the idea of getting them pulled overseas where the cost was more reasonable..but the idea scared me. I just didnt want to have adventures in guatemalan or filipino dental care.
Finally i have insurance from my job, so i had my teeth cleaned checked, and of course they told me the wisdom teeth had to go. The whole surgery only cost me $200 with my isurance. Sadly I wasnt able to be put to sleep cause i dont have medical-only dental. It was pretty horrific. I also came away with nerve damage to my face...most likely cause i let the surgery go for so long and my teeth had so long to take root. My face does seem to be improving with time tho. so fingers crossed that I will fully recover from this!
I am just happy its over. I pray that my complications will go away and I can take better care of my body in the future. Read how I did it… 12 months ago

I did it. All my teeth are cleaned, filled, and I had my surgery. Unfortunately my surgery was very difficult. I was supposed to be there for about 1 hour, instead I was there for 2.5 hours. i was awake during surgery. It was an absolutely horrific experience. I was so happy to have them out though, until i realized, I have nerve damage to my face. I cannot feel my lip, lower front teeth, or chin. Its so awful! Nerve damage is a complcation that happens sometimes. Some people heal after a week, months, or even 6 months…some never get their feeling back! Finally got my annual cleaning and exam. some minor issues to fix later this month..then onto wisdom tooth surgery! then I can get add this goal to the done list! Yessssss 14 months ago

:-) Finally got it done! the girl who cleaned my teeth was pleasant and didnt make me feel like TOO much of a dirtball… All in all no big drama like I imagined. I need a old filling replaced and and a small cavity filled..then there is the wisdom tooth part, which I knew about. Got a referal and I will handle that asap! 2 years ago
I finally got the courage to make the appointment today. I go on Thursday for a check up and cleaning. I’m so nervous and embarassed. It’s been a really long time. I know about my wisdom teeth, but I hope don’t have any other major problems to contend with. 2 years ago
