I haven’t performed professionally in so long. I need to be back on a stage in a real performance not just a school play and singing my heart out. Being on broadway is one of my biggest wishes because singing is my favorite activity and my voice is my prized possesion right below my family and really need to spread my wings and proved to all of those who think that I will not be successful in the entertainment industry that I can succeed. The only problem I have with musicals is that I tend to screw up auditions which sucks. I either choose the wrong song, or i am flat or sharp or sing really well but still not get the part. So there was my life story. I wish I could for once in my sing well and not be nervous in an audition and get a part in a musical that runs for over 7 days. On a lighter note, I am in an off-broadway show that only has 5 performances but then again I have to crawl before I can walk.
Walking off my tired feet…pounding 42nd street to be in a show. Lordy Lord, that’s not too far off! Except, I have to wait tables in between all the pounding of the feet. There are days, when I get up at 5:30 in the morning to get to a call by 7:00, so I can beat the gagillions of girls who are going for the same part that I’m going for, that I think, “Wow, what the &%$@!$#$ am I doing with my life?” And then I get that call back, or I get that gig, and I get to do what makes my soul sing, and I go, “Oh yeah, there it is”.
Well, right now I’m in an off-off Broadway show. It’s better than nothing…or is it? It’s always a balance; do you spend energy on the off-off show, or concentrate on really getting into stuff at the higher levels. Of course, great if you have time to do BOTH. I haven’t done even an off-off show in awhile, since I’ve been so involved in taking scene study classes. It’s fun to work on something that will have a life beyond class work. And the payoff, well, one just never knows. Sometimes one thing can lead to another. Once, an off-off show got me a connection and I got into an off-Broadway show!
I’ve been going to EPA open calls for around a year now. But not regularly. It’s so much work to get focused, get up early, have the right monologue! But I’m working on it! I want to get to know these casting directors. I went to one recently and the guy actually thought he remembered me. That was quite exciting!
when i was teeny i saw cats on broadway. i have always been a backstage type of person, but one day i would like to act in a play on stage.
