MicheleDid not make it this year.

Only 29 books read in 2011. Will try to reach my goal again for 2012. It’s been a rough year and while I have plenty of books on my Kindle and in my to be read pile, I just haven’t been reading as much. 16 months ago

sierrak59. "Grace Under Pressure" by Julie Hyzy

First in a cozy mystery series set on a manor back East. I thought the setting and characters were interesting. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

I’ve read a few other books in Dencember as well, but haven’t listed them here.

do impossible things"nobody wants to be here and nobody wants to leave"

57.) The Viscount Who Loved Me by Julia Quinn, 384 pages – these Bridgerton books are just soo good! Loved this one! (27th Oct)
58.) Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy by John le Carre, 422 pages – read this because I wanted to watch the film, but oh my god, it was so boring, and it took me ages to read because the only time I could be bothered to read it was on the tube to and from work/uni. Disappointment. (29th Oct)
59.) Whitney My Love by Judith McNaught, 708 pages (13th Nov)
60.) An Offer from a Gentleman by Julia Quinn, 384 pages – really sweet book, loved the fairy tale re-telling :) – (15th Nov)
61.) Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M Pirsig, 417 pages – I recommend reading this one slowly, with a pen and paper on hand for quotes and underlying passages. (17th Nov)
62.) Romancing Mr Bridgerton by Julia Quinn, 320 pages – i.e. the one where Lady Whistledown is finally revealed – did not see that one coming! (24th Nov)
63.) The Season by Sarah MacLean, 352 pages – so bad, and the whole uncle thing was so obvious! (28 Nov)
64.) How to Marry a Marquis by Julia Quinn, 375 pages (30th Nov)
65.) The Road by Cormac McCarthy, 307 pages – amazing, amazing, amazing book! (30th Nov)
66.) Mary Anne by Daphne du Maurier, 385 pages – really interesting book, I’m hooked on du Maurier, love her! (09th Dec)
67.) Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier – definitely a lot more graphic an violent than what I was expecting, but it was still very, very good! (21st Dec)

And I’m done for the year, I’m not really reading anything right now other than textbooks, research papers and books on statistics – very dull stuff, all for uni, boo, so I doubt I’ll get any other books finished this year!17 months ago

Forester321A Goal Unmet

It is pretty clear that I am not going to achieve this goal. I applaud the 36 people who did meet it. When I set the goal, I knew that it was fairly audacious of me and that it would be an uphill battle. My attention span is somewhat limited and reading at night tends to lead to my nodding off. Still, I don’t regret setting the goal. For me it was as much the journey as the destination. (Though, I really wished I gotten there.)

I did manage to read 38 books this year; probably the most that I’ve ever read. I could have devoted more time to reading, but there are so many activities that I enjoy and it would have been sad to have given up the others. It did result in my largely giving up watching television, with the exception of a few favorite shows, but I think that currently I am spending more time online.

It was a fun goal on which to work. I read that which interested me. I read a couple of classics. They always feel like an accomplishment. While reading Pride & Prejudice and The Deerslayer took much longer than modern novels, they provided wonderful insight into the forefathers of the romantic comedy and blockbuster adventure movies that we all love to see. Both Divine Beauty and Freedom took some time to read, but they shaped my thoughts on life and in the case of the former about the nature of God. There was some history and biography in this year’s mix of books; they have always been among my favorite subjects to read. Many of the books were just plain fun. CJ Box, John Grisham and Stephen King are like old friends; and when their latest books were released, I just devoured them. I also made the acquaintance of Nevada Barr whose stories of a mystery solving, National Park Ranger heroine entertained me this past summer.

I think I’ll set the same goal for next year. Whether or not I meet it, I know that I’ll have fun trying.

P.S. Congratulations again to the 36 people who have met this goal – You’re all awesome in my book =) 17 months ago

Forester32138. 11/22/63 by Stephen King

I’ve not read anything by Stephen King since summer reading between semesters in grad school. This was enjoyable albeit a bit long. Stories of time travel and its implications have always interested me, as had the Kennedy assassination. There were some very enjoyable threads to the story and some that were not so interesting. 17 months ago

Michele#29. One foot in the Grave - A holiday short short story by Steven York

The cover says it is a Dark Gothic Christmas Tale. It’s definitely a bit odd, but not a bad read. Nice and short. Finished it on my lunch hour. 17 months ago

Michele#28. For Her Pleasure (Maya Banks)

A delicious twist on erotic romance, and the debut collection from a hot new author.

Three novellas. Two interlocking stories. One sizzling read.

Nice set up: one spirited woman in Kit Townsend, and two hot buddies, Ryder and Mac, who take turns giving Kit what she needs. It’s the perfect no-strings triangle and while it doesn’t exactly follow the rules, neither does Kit. But when love unexpectedly throws these three friends for a loop, can they still have a happy ending?

And then there’s Mia Malone, a sweet Dallas girl who had big dreams for the future when she first met Texas Ranger Logan Kincaid. That fairy tale was a lifetime ago. Today, framed for drug possession, she’s forced to work undercover at a strip joint where several working girls have disappeared. Then in walks Logan-her protector, savior, and lover 17 months ago
