Still haven’t bought a new instrument. Ebay is really sucking for getting good deals on violins. So much trash. I guess I gotta haul myself to an actual shop to get something decent. But now that I’m really trying to start my daughter down the path of music appreciation, I feel this is sorta necessary. We’ll see…

...I played when I was a child. My guess is that it was for 6 or so years. I want to learn again.

I learnt to play the Violin for seven years, then quit in exasperation as I had played for seven years and i was only at grade 3 (i could have possibly played harder stuff), and I had recently took up flute (at the time) which after two years I have just passed my grade 6 with high Merit. Now, i’ve decided I was rather silly. It’s been two years, and i sorely miss it. However, my old violin is 3/4 size andi sold it, so i would need a violin, and i have music and stuf to learn from. is there any tips on getting back into playing Violin? I should be taking proper Cello lessons when I get back to school. My fingers still have dexterity, as i play flute and Sax. any tips and advice (including where to get a decent, but relitavly cheap full size violin) would be much appreciated.

I used to play the violin until about two years ago. I decided i wanted to quit for a while and maybe start back later, but when i wanted to start back my mom wouldn’t let me. I still have my violin but I dont remember how to play it as good as i could when i took lessons about two years ago. Plus my violin is missing a string so that makes it harder to re-learn how to play it. I hope to get my violin fixed soon and get back to playing it.

Back to the grind 3 years ago

Back to practicing nearly everyday. Working on the Haydn Concerto in G, don’t have a teacher but am still enjoying myself.

I haven’t picked up a violin since I was about 12 years old. I’m turning 30 in April! I still love the sound of the violin, though, and it’s something I’ve always regretted to have fallen by the wayside.

    Shoulder rest 4 years ago

I’ve bought a lower shoulder rest for the violin and my tone and posture have already improved. I’m taking it nice and easy and doing my scales and concentrating on maintaining a good sound and being in tune rather than dynamics. I can feel everything I’ve learned slowly come back to me, I could still use an instructor though.

    Restarting 4 years ago

I haven’t properly played violin for about four years now and it really shows when I picked it up again today. My fingers have long lost their calluses, my pinky its dexterity, and my tone is almost as bad as my first few years. I’ve set a slow and steady pace for myself going through the first couple of Suzuki books again. I might even find a tutor in the area to help.
