clearthinkerMy 'almost finished quilt'
It’s almost done, I need the final touches. Lovely and made with old blue jeans. It will be useful too. 2 months ago

The quilt is almost bagged. And when it’s bagged, the stitching can begin. I ought to work on it now and tomorrow, as I’ve left it at mom’s where I am now, but I haven’t really planned it. No sense in procrastination though. 3 months ago
…that’s just the way the top and bottom pieces fit together with the batting in between, and I’d rather make it larger than smaller. I have most of my squares for the checkered border cut and now I must sew them all together in a row, and then sew them to the quilt top. Then, somehow, I have to border the quilt by tucking the edges all in and stitching it together in a way that is called “bagging.” Once the quilt has been bagged, then the quilting – the stitching of regular designs through the top and the bottom – begins. I do not have a quilt frame for any of this, only a quilting hoop. 6 months ago
5 years after I started I finished just in time to take it with me to my college dorm!! I also made a quilt that I gave to my boyfriend for St. Patrick’s Day! I still use my original quilt on my bed everyday…. 9 months ago
It was my goal to assemble my quilt over the Christmas holidays, however the local fabric shop in town closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 (good for them! I like businesses like this!) and so I didn’t find out if they found a supply of wool batting for me. If I’m going to make a quilt, however imperfect, I want it to be warm and durable enough to hand down, or reuse as the interior of a future quilt (an old wool batting quilt can have the extra material torn off and be reused, after a thorough cleaning). The top was finally done a few weeks ago; I will continue over the next little while to complete the patchwork for the underside (the sheet I have for the underside is holey and plain) and then, after I have the batting and get it together, I will need to figure out how to stretch it so I can do the quilting. 16 months ago
It almost felt anticlimactic, I’ve been working on it so long. It’s strategically draped where I can enjoy it. 20 months ago
The binding is on the front, and 1/4 sewn around to the back. It’s kind of irregular; something to work on in the next quilt. 20 months ago
Today was my deadline. I finally got the thread I needed and finished the quilting. I’ve only done 1/16 of binding, but I will finish soon (tomorrow I hope). 20 months ago
for me at Fabric Depot, so as soon as I am better I will pick it up and finish my quilt. Meantime I can get the label done. It’s hard, I don’t enjoy that kind of embroidery. 20 months ago
Okay, I did see this coming for a day or two, but with only 3 1/2 blocks left to quilt I am totally out of the thread I was using. I hope it’s not hard to replace; it’s a major brand but an unusually heavy weight, so if I can’t exactly match it I may have to use the green spool. I bought them both together for last fall’s batik pinwheel quilt (which I love) so they are the same brand and weight, but I’ve used up all the pinky orange thread and I have just the greeny brown one left. On the bright side, many fabric shops and such in Portland, so I hope I can find the right thread. Also I did start the label, which is embroidered with the greeny – brown version of the thread (see, I anticipated running out); also I quilt through my labels, so if I use the same thread that I am quilting with it becomes very hard to read. 20 months ago
Couldn’t quite get #30 done tonight. Almost 5/6 done! The next few days I will have little time to work on this, but I hope to be able to meet my deadline. I have a little over a week to finish quilting and to bind. I think I’ll skip a proper label and maybe just embroider the date on the back. 20 months ago
Quilt guild meeting today, which was very inspiring, plus lots of time to work on my quilt. I got lots of encouragement, including requests to see it when it’s done and encouragement to make a quilt for the upcoming contest. 20 months ago
Now for the borders. I’m also looking for clever non-chemical ways of removing the pencil from the parts I’ve already quilted. The only way I know is to scrub with a wet washcloth. 20 months ago
I’d like to be thinking about fall now, but it’s still summer weather here, and it’s expected to stay pretty warm through the end of the month, so that makes it easier to concentrate on finishing my summer quilt. Also, I am not buying any fabric this month, so that helps, as my intended fall projects require purchases. I have plenty enough to keep me busy for one month even if I finish this quilt soon: let’s not forget the still-unquilted twin-sized sunflower quilt that was the original aim of this goal; and I am trying to get caught up on my home sewing and related home projects this month, as I’m tired of looking at unfinished stuff. 20 months ago
fully quilted, and more than enough spill over to say officially, 1/3 done! This heat is making it difficult, we’ll see if I can meet my goal of fully completed by the 21st. 20 months ago
It’s still too hot to put the quilt on my lap, but I am plugging away at tracing the quilting patterns onto the quilt. More than half is traced now. 20 months ago
