A fab old cartoon of my younger days. The Watchmen think so too =))
What websites did you guys go to to get the episodes I looked everywhere. no help
I remember as a kid getting home from school and dying to watch Mysterious Cities of Gold. Even watching it with my perstering little sister was a pleasure. This is a must have for anybody that either wants to relive those childhood days for half an hour or so, or someone who is looking for a wonderful and innocent cartoon for their own children.
I had only a few episodes for some years, till I was able to get them all. now I can die happy:)))
The “Mysterious Cities of Gold” was a 39-episode animated serial produced in 1982. It was a French/Japanese co-production, primarily for French television (where it’s known as Les Mystérieuses Cités d’Or), based very loosely on Scott O’Dell’s book The King’s Fifth
The show featured really excellent Vangelis type music which was provided by Haim Saban & Shuki Levy (who more recently brought us the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”). I urge you to check out the amazing remastered versions made of the show’s original soundtrack and especially this theme, this theme, this theme and this theme
The story which begins in the year 1532, focuses mainly on three children – Esteban, an orphan raised in Barcelona; Zia, a young Inca girl; and Tao, last descendent of the empire of Hiva, a continent which sank beneath the Pacific centuries earlier. All three have different reasons to join the trip – Esteban to find his father and his identity, Zia to find her father and Tao to find the remains of his race. The clues for all three quests however all point to the seven Cities of Gold.
The children are accompanied by the Spanish navigator Mendoza and two comic-relief sailors – Pedro and Sancho.
The Mysterious Cities of Gold is a story of adventure and discovery, as the characters’ quest for the cities of gold takes them across the Atlantic Ocean, over the rugged Andes Mountains, into the Amazon jungle, and across countless other deserts, mountains, and rivers. Throughout their travels, the children befriend many Indian tribes, and escape many dangers, such as gold-greedy Europeans, hostile native tribes, and the Olmecs.
They also discover many ancient ruins, and secrets of the cities of gold, as well as many treasures and mysterious futuristic machines, such as the solar powered sailing ship, The Solaris, and a flying golden condor, which the children use for travel.
Many of the figures and events in the series were taken right out of the history books. For instance, General Pizarro, the conqueror of the Incas has a prominent role in the series, and many of the Mayan and Incan ruins that the characters visit, such as Machu Picchu, are actual, real-life ruins. The show also provides a bit of a crash course in Native South American culture and religion.
I got a chance to see all the episodes last year thanks to my broadband internet connection and Kazaa.
