Today I ran 3.5 miles in 30 minutes. I’m definately making some progress and I’m feeling really good. At this speed I’m averaging 7 mph, so now I’ve only got another 3 mph before I realize my ideal pace.
How I did it: Overtraining is the key. I've been trying to run a 5k at least 3 times a week (on top of lifting weights). By pushing your 5k time, you can easily improve your 1 mile time. Also, by working on interval training with short bursts of high intensity, your long distance, endurance will improve greatly.
Resources: A good pair of shoes. Go to a running store where they can wach you run in different pairs to match you to a pair of well-fitted running shoes.

I’ve been running on a treadmill and doing the math. If I can increase my average speed to 10 mph, then I’ll reach this goal. Right now my average speed is about 6.5 mph. I’ve got a long way to go, but I know I can make it!

I currently have about a 9:00/mile pace for my 5k. Running one mile straight is probably a little lower than than that. First, I’d like to be able to run a mile in six minutes or under, and then I’d like to be able to extend that pace for a 5k race.
i have ben trying to get under a 6 minute mile in like 2-3 weeks and its a bitch!!! lol plz help me give me pointers i need too in like a month and 1/2 because i am going to the marines and want to have a perfect physical test lol help me give pointers lol i already run 4 miles 4-5 times a week
I was able to run under 7:30 after swimming a 1000 meters. I’m pretty happy with that, and believe I’ll be able to achieve this one relatively easily.
I’ve broken the 6:45 barrier and I am working my way to 6:30. I have to admit that going below 6:00 sounds pretty hard right now, but it’s rewarding at the same time. Being fit is great.
In the beginning (or however you spell it), I could run a mile in 12 minutes and 45 seconds. In my new school, you are required to play a 2 competitive sports. I chose winter track, and track and feild, since those are the two sports my old school didn’t take seriously. Well, lucky me, in this new school, track is freakin hard core stuff. Lately, I’ve been working on my distance run, in a few weeks I’ll work on speed. But right now, I’ve improved. This morning- 8 minutes flat. I’m oober proud of myself. I’m on my way…
With my stubby little legs, chances are slim. But that doesn’t keep me from trying. When I’m flying on the treadmill going all out, I look rather silly…but I am getting faster!
You should try track work outs/intervals, and make sure you have some distance running in there for endurance too. Patience is key – injuries are easy to come by if you’re pushing too hard (I’ve done this to myself on a number of occasions)
