well first off i cant touch type in QWERTY
i touch type in dvorak
dvorak is not for everyone
but its worth it in my opinion.
i can type how i think .. without thinking ( figure that out :P )
i bought stickers that went on my keyboard. but as i learnt each finger i removed the stickers.
to this day i still don’t think about typing. i just do it.

I’ve been using the “search and destroy” method of typing forever. I thought my typing skills were fine, but now it seems as if everyone can touch type except me! At work, it takes me ages to complete the most simple assignments, such as typing up address labels… not good.
I’ve been doing simple typing drills on typingweb.com, and my gross wpm is about 3! Blah! I need to get serious about doing the drills everyday, and most importantly, I need to stop looking at the keys. I actually type more slowly when I use proper finger placement, which sucks, so I’ll often slip back into my old two-finger habits to finish something more quickly. But I know that ultimately, finger placement will help me reach my goals.
I’m determined to finally learn how to type! I’ve rebelled long enough. My short term goal is 45 wpm, and I hope to eventually get up to 75 wpm. Also, my 10-key skills have already dramatically improved, but that’s the easy part :)

I can now touch type. I’m still now overly fast but I have reached a level I am happy with and I know it will continue to improve with use and practice. Typing up assignments is no longer a huge time wasing struggle.

We never learned touch typing at school (I don’t really remember anything about our IT lessons apart from they were really old pc’s!) so i’ve never done it. I type pretty fast with a few fingers but I really want to touch type and hopefully not have to stare at the keyboard when I do it! I’ve found a programme online that I can follow for free so i’m going to endeavour to do 1/2 an hour each day and hopefully start to see some results!

Hopefully this will benefit me eventually as I write stories and will be able to type them up faster, without having to stop to read the hand-written first draft :)
I have a friend who I can ask for help and the net wil hopefully provide some answers, as my memory of this is vague from high school!

Dvorak works.

It’s not for everybody, but During a midwinter break I was bored and tried out this Dvorak keyboard layout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_keyboard. And in about 3 weeks of using it all the time (for everyday stuff, not doing typing programs) I could touch type and already type faster than I could on QWERTY.
I can still use QWERTY just fine, but I prefer dvorak, and still use it at home.
It’s not for everybody, but it’s really worth it in my opinion.

The program I use will not allow me to progress until I can complete a certain exercise within a minute. I have spent hours trying to get my speed up but its not happening quickly. I’m getting bored of repeating the same exersised to practice. I just want to move on to new stuff.
