We never learned touch typing at school (I don’t really remember anything about our IT lessons apart from they were really old pc’s!) so i’ve never done it. I type pretty fast with a few fingers but I really want to touch type and hopefully not have to stare at the keyboard when I do it! I’ve found a programme online that I can follow for free so i’m going to endeavour to do 1/2 an hour each day and hopefully start to see some results!

How I did it: It was a sixteen week high school class meeting once a day, 5 days a week, for 45 minutes. It began with many many many boring exercises. fff ddd sss aaa jjj kkk lll; basically teaching your fingers the home row, etc etc. From there you expand. The more you practice, the more the location of the keys becomes muscle memory like a baseball or golf swing, the easier it becomes. If you put in the 45 minutes a … Read how I did it…

How I did it: Touch typing is something I learned after a few years of computer use but that's because I started using computers when I was five or six. For years I would type really fast with two fingers and finally i forced myself to use all fingers. It worked well. Now I can touch type on many keyboards, including mobile phones :-P Read how I did it…

Technically I now know how to, I just need to practise alot beacause I’m so slow! :D
Frenetik has realised that jotting down goals really motivates!
Yeah, so I’ve been in the IT industry for 10 years, and I can’t touch type.
I have no idea how much time I’ve wasted typing two fingered over the last 10 years. Time to fix it.
I’ve got myself some typing course software which I will be using 1 hour per week minimum. Hopefully over the next few months we will see some results!

Hopefully this will benefit me eventually as I write stories and will be able to type them up faster, without having to stop to read the hand-written first draft :)
I have a friend who I can ask for help and the net wil hopefully provide some answers, as my memory of this is vague from high school!

It’s not for everybody, but During a midwinter break I was bored and tried out this Dvorak keyboard layout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_keyboard. And in about 3 weeks of using it all the time (for everyday stuff, not doing typing programs) I could touch type and already type faster than I could on QWERTY.
I can still use QWERTY just fine, but I prefer dvorak, and still use it at home.
It’s not for everybody, but it’s really worth it in my opinion.

The program I use will not allow me to progress until I can complete a certain exercise within a minute. I have spent hours trying to get my speed up but its not happening quickly. I’m getting bored of repeating the same exersised to practice. I just want to move on to new stuff.

Started this a little while ago but will continue until I increase accuracy and get up to a reasonable speed.
