German 3 months ago

I’m slowly working on my german. I found an old german language book from my Oma that has really been helping me. I’ve also been talking to Leonie, a girl in Germany who is learning english. It’s nice practice and gives me more of an incentive to learn.

I feel as if I’ve waited to long to learn other languages. My father’s native language is Spanish and that might be the easiest one to start with. I took some French in high school and while I didn’t pay much attention, certain things stuck out in my mind. I recently traveled to Italy and before departing, I crash-coursed myself in the basics of Italian and was able to make basic conversation. Not only will learning Spanish/French/Italian be a good use of my time, it will also come in handy when traveling (which I plan to do much more of). And who knows, maybe it could even lead to something job-related. The easy part is the pronunciation (that’s a strong point for me)...it’s the actual learning of the words that’s the challenge! And what a fun challenge it is.

I already speak English and rough Spanish, but I would like to become fluent in Spanish, then possibly learn a third, maybe Japanese.

Learn to speak several different languages. 7 months ago

I’m starting with the Spanish Rosetta Stone this week…

Starting with two....... 7 months ago

I’m studying Spanish and Arabic right now. This is a major topic so I’ll be adding mini-goals to the list to reach each week.

Slowly but surely. 9 months ago

I have recently returned from a trip backpacking around Europe. I was very impressed with the expanse of people’s language skills while there. How young kids that I met could speak 6 different languages. I felt very inept being only able to speak a single language. So I have started to learn German, and hope to start Spanish soon. German is proving difficult but I really want to stick with it.

Ah, languages. 10 months ago

English is my first language, and since I live in Canada I’ve taken French every day since I was 6 years old. I’m pretty good at French, so I think if I keep taking it in school all the way through I could be fluent in French by the time I’m at University. I started taking Spanish this year in school and find it really easy, so probably by the time I’m in University I hope I’ll be fluent in it!! I’ve also done a bit of Italian – it’s so similar to Spanish and French that it shouldn’t be that hard for me to pick it up. Wish me luck!!!

I’m already bilingual, or at least I feel like I am. Norwegian is my mother tongue and at the moment I’m taking the IB Diploma Programme. This means that I’m using English everyday in school, so I’m pretty close to being what I mean is fluent.

I’m studying Japanese at my spare time, and I hope I’ll become nearly fluent in that too one day. Perhaps in some years.

I’m already bilingual I mean I’m really bilingual I’m not kind of bilingual. (Which is what most people are when they say they are bilingual.) I’m kind of trilingual in Spanish. I’ve taken 3 years of it, and I’ve gone on 3 trips to Spanish speaking countries to practice.(For a total of 5 weeks but not all together.) I know what you’re thinking, 3 years of studying? 5 weeks of speaking and she’s still not fluent? The answer is no. I’m not fluent, but I can get around, and I can hold conversations. I can even get a few jokes, but I’m not fluent.

I’m still learning though, my courses I took were by correspondance and I was learning it by a book own my own. It was not ideal, but I learned a lot anyways. I want to really be trilingual in Spanish, French and English. I know I will be. After that I may try Portuguese, Japanese, Swahili, Mandarin or Hindi. I’m not sure which one yet. I’m not to worried I’m just trying to focus on being fluent in my third. But since I started my third language I’ve improved in my English and my French. I think it’s kind of weird how that works.
