write a firefox extension

I fell at the first hurdle with this because following the tutorial didn’t work. After pulling my hair out for a while, I downloaded the .zip of pre-written files and they didn’t work either.

Then I figured out that I had to increase the version number of Firefox that the extension was compatible with. When it still didn’t work, I tried uninstalling the extension and installing again and it worked. Then I realised that all the changes I had made the first time I tried it probably didn’t register because I would have had to keep uninstalling and installing again.

I don’t feel quite up to going back and testing this theory though now that I have a base to work from that I know works. The only question now is, what to build?

I don’t really get excited by doing client-side web stuff like this, and after all this time I really haven’t come up with any cool ideas that I couldn’t just do with a javascript bookmarklet. I’d rather focus on making really cool websites.
