completed this goal
How I did it: I got in touch with various research groups, and offered free labour. Part of the research has been part of my degree, but a lot of that was my going beyond was was required, staying up late reading, editing, generally taking part in tedious like behaviour. I have been so caught up in other work that I haven’t had much of a chance to get on top of this literature review.
I need to get a draft out to her soon. This is an absolute priority if I want this goal to continue 15 months ago

Met up with a paediatrician today about the possibility of doing some research for her. I asked for something I could get done largely over weekends and at home. She seemed interested, but will have to ask her team about it further. I wish I could offer more, but its just difficult with my timetable.
That’s promising :) I guess its just up to juggle this between other work. I will though because I’m very keen to get my name on papers, as many as I can. 16 months ago

I got an email today with some enquiries to a dataset I managed a year ago. He sneakily wrote at the end that it was for a paper I was going to be first author on.
Sweet, I love being first author on papers I haven’t written.
None of the papers I have submitted have been printed as of yet, so this goal is not complete. Yet. 17 months ago

Haven’t heard much more from the two previous submitted articles. I feel they would have rejected us by now if they weren’t suitable. I don’t really like leaving goals to just sit around and do nothing. I feel I should do something new and exciting in a new direction while the other papers are being reviewed.
Anyway the other day I emailed a prof about doing some work in paediatrics/indigenous/refugee health with her. She asked me to make an appointment with her secretary in the new year. 18 months ago

Gave my paper to my supervisor and he seems very pleased with it. I am now just waiting on M to send me back a logistic regression and I’ll go from there. 23 months ago

Okay so I just got a draft version of the sister paper that’s going to be submitted with mine.
Crap, I haven’t started the stats yet.
So new plan
1. restructure paper this weekend to make it look like Matt’s deadline Monday
2. update literature search deadline Monday
3. Do ALL stats on Tuesday, and have a draft ready to send off to Matt and Gavin I didn’t get all the stats done, not by a long shot. They will be done by this week though, my supervisor is sitting on my tail23 months ago

Together we outlined a structure for the article. I hope to get a good start on cleaning up the article in the coming week. My first task is to update the literature review, then I’ll work through the methods and results.
I’ll aim to this paper ready to be submitted by the end of July
Next week
- review literature review, get all relevant articles on computer at home
- write methods section as best I can
- email Matt about getting a copy of the data waiting on the data to come through
- clean and then confirm dates with Matt I have asked Matt to send through the data
- run down the SPSS data techniques that I need
- get SPSS
- complete methods and general demographics
This might not all happen next week, but I’ll try and knock down as much as I can
