I just realized the other day that it’s been 10 years since I made the switch. Do you know how many cows I’ve helped? No, I don’t either. I hope I’ve eased a few udders. I feel so bad for the mookies. But mostly, I think milk is a weird thing for us to gulp down – it’s gross. When you haven’t drunk it in a long time, it tastes yucky, and smells yuckier, like something that isn’t natural for us to eat.
(I do love me some cheese though…can’t help it. Ice cream, too)
But just getting rid of those big gallon containers in the fridge makes all the difference – help the sicko-farm mookies! Those hormones they put em on are awful!
I drink Silk Low Fat Plain. It works in everything, unless I’m baking – if I must, I’ll buy a small carton of organic milk to build a cake or something…I like Horizon Dairy Farm. I’ve even been there! They’ll take you around and show you the animals and the farm. Unfortunately, the fall we went out there, was after a hurricane knocked down their corn maze. Hence one of my other goals.;}

I used to drink skim milk, but then decided to make the switch to soy milk. I only like the taste of Vanilla soy milk so it makes it difficult to eat cold cereal with it, because I don’t like the taste of it on the cold cereal.
I’m starting to get used to drinking it instead of dairy milk. One thing that I’ve noticed since I stopped drinking dairy milk is that my stomach isn’t as bloated as it used to be. I also like how soy milk lasts longer in the fridge than dairy milk. I wouldn’t drink the dairy milk fast enough before it would reach it’s expiry date!

I guess I still have cows milk outside (in lattes), but never at home. Only need (soya) milk with porridge. Yofu with muesli during the summer months:)

I decided to switch to soy milk after having had some sleep disorders (I’ve been having trouble waking up on time and the quality of my sleep got much worse) for a while and consulting about it with a special sleeping Doctor whom advised me switching to Soy milk.
To my amazement during the last few days I’ve been noticing a change in my sleeping habits:
- I am becoming more aware to outside noises while asleep. (it’s much easier to wake me up now).
- I am starting to wake up early without feeling exhausting.
Soy milk is promoted as an healthy alternative to cow’s milk for the following reasons:
- Contains fewer antibiotics, hormones, fat, cholesterol, excess protein, or links to cancer, diabetes, and other diseases.
- Phytochemicals reduce the risk of cancer.
- Soy protein reduces the levels of cholesterol and lessens the incidences of atherosclerosis.
- Diabetes management through its ability to control blood sugar levels. However, diabetics should be aware that most brands of soymilk – even those labelled “plain” or “organic” – are actually sweetened. Look for the word “unsweetened” on the label.
- Source of lecithin and vitamin E
- Lacks casein.
- Soy milk is pareve and so may be consumed along with meat by Jews who keep kosher.
- Safe for people with lactose intolerance or allergy to cow’s milk.
- Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are good for your heart.
- Contains isoflavones, natural soy nutrients that are beneficial to health.
