Archery has fascinated me since I was a kid. When I was in middle school we had Field Day (where you try new sports and play games signifying the end of the school year). I tried archery and fell head over heels for the sport. It’s all technique and patience. I love it!

I need a hobby
I feel like I spend way too much time doing absolutely nothing, except watch too much TV.
I have always been good at archery, so I think I should take it up again. :)

Yeah, i’ve done this now! I joined my local club (Chewton Bowmen) last August and now i have my own recurve bow and am working my way up to shooting at 70M. I really enjoy my achery, it’s a great mental release and teaches you a lot about how to listen to small changes in yr body. Highly recomended.

I found a nice little archery range just a few minutes away from my house. They offer lessons and the staff seem very friendly. I’m definitely interested.

mikemojc2 getting in shape, learning the old ways, becoming worthy
I would like to get into a ‘period” rig, which for SCA people means wooden bow, wood arrows with feather fletching, and some kind of natural bowstring. I have a childs fiberglas bow (20# pull), but all the kids arrows have disappeared. I’ve shot just a little, but would like to shoot more and better without having to dump a bunch of money in it.
I can hardly justify all the armour stuff, winemaking stuff, cheese making stuff, and other medieval stuff I’ve bought or made to my wife as it is, so I hope this is something I can have fun with inexpensively.

FIVE YEARS people! That’s how long i was at this, it became more of a chore than a pasttime in the middle there and i didn’t like it. Here’s my tip – don’t think that you have to be the BEST! Have some fun for gods sake, it really is a fun pasttime.

I don’t it anymore, but I’ll never regret the college course I took in archery.

You need to get real lessons so you have proper form and put on your arm guard properly and such, otherwise you can hurt yourself.
This is something I did for a year or two and it was fun; I haven’t done it in a long time but I don’t regret having done it. This doesn’t have to be a big deal; snoop around and you can probably find classes where you don’t need to buy anything. I myself never owned a bow and had a blast at weekly group lessons with one borrowed off the rack.

That make the firing of the arrows (even with an arm guard) impossible without catching the inside of my arm. It’s a shame becasue I really enjoyed it but I ended up with a left arm that looked like I’d been injecting heroin, which isn’t a good look really!
