I didn’t write anything about this goal yet, also because of my uncertain situation until last week; I didn’t want to start growing a tree, and then throw it away! Now that I know for sure I am going to stay in Madrid for at least three years (and probably four), I can define this goal.
My goal is to plant enough trees to cover CO2 emissions for each flight I have taken during my two years in Ireland.
I cannot even remember how many flights I have taken (I will check this), but working on an amount of 5 flights a year from Dublin to/from Madrid/Venice, a rough calculation using treecanada.ca gives me for guidance… 24 trees!
I want to plant the trees from the seed. I will start growing them in plantpots, and then transplanting them somewhere (like my parent’s garden, for some of them).

Not sure if this counts but we have just finished planting about 200 “trees”. A mixed hedge at the bottom of the orchard. Small, but looks great. We got our hedging plants from Ashridge – nice people.

Renee49 is dancing as fast as she can
I once got stuck planting 200 highbred poplars by myself. I was not happy about this at the time, but after a few years of watching my little forest grow I was pretty pleased with the results. What better monument to leave of yourself then a tree (or trees)?

I have a fig tree in a pot right now. I have had it for about 3 or 4 years. I have been shaping it so that when I can plant it I will have a strong and balanced tree. I want it to have a somewhat low crown. This year I am going to make my first attempt at air layering so that I can trim it and get a new tree. If I can get grafting down it would be nice to have a multi-fig tree.

I had a Japanese Maple that got a disease and needed to replace it. I’ve always wanted a Crabapple tree, so planted one that has worked beautifully:
