This goes right along with “Eliminate Netspeak” as far as I’m concerned. YOU’RE means “You are.” YOUR means “Belongs to you.” The two shall not be confused. There are different meanings for the words “four” and “for,” as well as “two,” “to,” and “too,” and for some reason most people do not confuse these with each other. Yet, “your” and “you’re” seem to fall through the cracks. The Grammar police will come calling if YOU’RE not careful! YOUR day will come!
It frustrates me to no end when people write “your” instead of “you’re.” I wish this didn’t drive me as mad as it does, because I encounter this grammar crime nearly every day! I do tend to correct people, which I’m sure they find annoying, but if I’m going to accomplish this goal, I can’t keep quiet about this! When you want to shorten “you are,” write you’re NOT your! Get it?!?
