Go to work and take your calls
Hang the fruits of your labour on the walls
Such precision and care
What does it matter if there’s no one here to share
The flowers in the garden, the wine
The Waiting For Godot and so much modern time?
All I want is what you want
I’m always waiting for a red letter day
The years perfecting a stance
Of measured cool fade into insignificance
The moment one starts to understand
What on earth does it profit a man?
All I want is what you want
I’m always waiting for a red letter day
For something special, somehow new
Someone saying “I love you”
Baby, I’m waiting for that red letter day
You can sneer or disappear
Behind a veneer of self-control
But for all of those who don’t fit in
Who follow their instincts and are told they sin
This is a prayer for a different way
All I want is what you want
I’m always waiting for a red letter day
Like Christmas morning when you’re a kid
Admit you love me and you always did
Baby, I’m hoping for that red letter day today

Wait in line
Till your time
Ticking clock
Everyone Stop.
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Do you believe in what you see….?
There doesn’t seem to be anybody else who agrees with me
Do you believe in
What you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
in what you see
Nine to five
Living lies
Every Day
Stealing time
Everyone’s taking everything they can, everything they can
Everyone’s taking everything they can, everything they can
Do you believe in what you feel…?
It doesn’t seem to be anybody else who agrees with me
Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
in what you see
And I’ll shout, I’ll scream…
But I’d rather not have seen
And i’ll hide away
for another day….
Do you believe
In what you see
Motionless wheel
Nothing is real
Wasting my time
In the waiting line
Do you believe
In what you see
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s saying different things to me, different things to me
Everyone’s taking everything they can, everything they can…...

(this song resonnates so strongly with me these days; speaks to the edge i’m precariously perched on…)
Thank you for this
bitter knowledge.
Guardian angels
who left me stranded.
It was worth it, feeling abandoned.
Makes one hardened
but what has happened to love ?
‘Got me writing
lyrics on postcards.
Then in the evenings
looking at stars…
But the brightest of the planets
is Mars.....
What has happened to love ?
You see over me
But I’ll never know
What you’ve shown to other eyes
Go
or go ahead
and surprise me
Say you’ve lead the way
to a mirage
Go or go ahead
and just try me….
Nowhere’s now here
smelling of junipers
Fell off the hay bales,
I’m over the rainbows
But kiss me and crucify
This unholy notion
of the mythic powers of love
Look in the eyes
look in the eyes
Forget about the ones that are crying
Go or go ahead
And surprise me….
(Rufus Wainwright, “Go Or Go Ahead”)

“This Song Has No Title”
Tune me in to the wild side of life
I’m an innocent young child sharp as a knife
Take me to the garretts where the artists have died
Show me the courtrooms where the judges have lied
Let me drink deeply from the water and the wine
Light coloured candles in dark dreary minds
Look in the mirror and stare at myself
And wonder if that’s really me on the shelf
And each day I learn just a little bit more
I don’t know why but I do know what for
If we’re all going somewhere let’s get there soon
Oh this song’s got no title just words and a tune
Take me down alleys where the murders are done
In a vast high powered rocket to the core of the sun
Want to read books in the studies of men
Born on the breeze and die on the wind
If I was an artist who paints with her eyes
I’d study my subject and silently cry
Cry for my darkness to come down on me
For confusion to carry on turning the wheel
And each day I learn just a little bit more
I don’t know why, but I do know what for
If we’re all going somewhere let’s get there soon
Oh this song’s got no title just words and a tune…

i saw a variation of this goal on someone elses’ list,,,,and wanted to compile a list of songs i’ve identified with. It seems i’ve always had some sort a song picked out in my mind to define different parts of my life (i regularly make mix tapes as collages of perspectives and emotions…)
So, i’m going to first list songs from my past, songs that were significant and descriptive of me at the time…
- (And I’m) ‘Feeling Good by Michael Buble – 2006

* - She’s leaving home by Beatles – age 30-34
- Control by Janet Jackson – age 30
- Peaceful by Helen Reddy – age 21

Too much fun! I’ve got about a zillion (give or take a few) cds in my car with “Themes” that get me going in the morning, calm me down in the evening, etc. I come up with a theme, think of all of the music I have that makes me feel in a way that will reflect that theme, compile a cd, and blam – I’ve got a cd of theme songs. My own personal movie soundtrack. I’d recommend it to eeeeveryone.
