become a burlesque dancer

On Friday (night before Halloween), I kittened for the show. (Kittening is somewhat like stage-handing and picking up the discarded articles of clothing and props after the performance, while looking good.) We kittens were somewhat incorporated into the show a little. All the wonderful dancers of the evening were very appreciative of my help, and I received an offer to dance at an upcoming event in Jan/Feb. Plenty of time to pull together a routine and costume.. even with my ridiculously busy schedule. Definitely looking forward to it. ;)

So I’m watching videos of burlesque troupes and I keep thinking “I can do that”.
I just don’t know where to start. Dance classes obviously but as for the actual burlesque, I’m lost. None of the local troupes are “inclusive” or really have tryouts for armatures. So, how to I start?

Pin-Up class was amazing today. And Amy and Bettana were so sweet. I got the quick background on how Amy got into burlesque. So maybe with a little luck and some condom lollipops, I could someday do a show with those awesome ladies.

Found out that Studio 7 is offering a Vintage Burlesque class. Perfect. Now, if I could only get some info. I’ve emailed the studio to see the cost, times ect. They emailed back saying they would forward it along to the instructor. Still waiting to hear…..

My dream burlesque job…. Pretty Things Show. These girls are amazing and exactly the vibe I want to go for.

Signed up for their San Diego How to Be a Pin-Up workshop next week. $200 is painful but I had to.

Took my first burlesque workshop yesterday with the amazing Catherine D’Lish. She is tiny, talented and very sweet. The classes were very fun (and very challenging).
All in all, a good start.

I’ve had an obsession with the 50s for 5 years. Granted, I’m only 17 now, so that’s a pretty big chunk in my life. Through that obsession, came my obsession with 50s clothes, then i discovered 50s underwear and through that burlesque.

I work out, because I want to be a burlesque performer. I did 6 years of ballet with that goal in mind, I ballroom dance to get more elegant.

I know I need to wait for my 18th Birthday anyway, but burlesque is my premiere goal. And I’ve never told anyone that!

I’m just worried about being all wrong for it figure wise. I’m only 5 foot ! I weigh between 100 and 110 pounds…it changes a lot. I’m a 32 E cup! Though those are being reduced to either a C or a B next year…

So A and I made a second visit to a brand new all Vegan coffee shop here in town (which rocks.. we love it.. the owners are awesome.. but I totally forget the name which is lame)...

Anyway.. there was a girl who was ordering a beverage and had made a comment about the car outside with a Vegan sticker (which was our car). We piped up and mentioned it to her.

She was very sweet and conversational. Then she invited us to go to her Caberet/Burlesque show that night. I had other plans but A went. Anyway, he mentioned to her at the coffee shop that I was interested in getting into Burlesque dancing and she said she knew people and had friends who could hook me up. :)

So I think she’ll be a great resource. I plan on taking classes though as well.. (of course first I need to get into my ideal ‘shape’)..

So yeah! Maybe this is going to be a lot easier to break into than what I thought. :)

So, auditioning tonight. Wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get myself together because I got a cold Monday night and have been sick for most of this week. (Wanted to go see Vaudezilla on Thurs, but I was about ready to drop after class, so I opted for bed rest)

Feeling better today, almost 100%. Feel good about the routine. It’s not the most elaborate or original, but that can come later (when I have more time for costuming and construction.)

All in all, I’m really excited.

Got my Audition for Vaudezilla scheduled – yay! Now to choreograph a routine and put together a costume. I have about eight ideas for routine themes. Cool. Action is good.
