I was just cleaning out my e-mail – an unnecessary task compared to other things I have before me – when I found an old reminder e-mail about this. It was in my “given up” list. As I am at this moment sitting in a living room I cleaned in Vesterbro, Copenhagen, I am actually living in Europe. Let’s see how long I manage to stay. I would say “for a while” counts as at least three months, and I have a visa for six. 3 years ago

My roommate and I are thinking about moving to Europe when our lease is up in a couple of months..we are young and dont really have any attachments and feel it would be the perfect time to go and experience a different life for @ least 6 months but maybe longer in Europe! We were wondering if anyone could give us any advice on some steps that we should take in making this a reality..it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! 3 years ago

I have lived in Europe for about a year in 2006. It’s such a wonderful time I enjoyed my life there, the beautiful nature and the friends I made, the colleagues I worked with who have been so nice to me.
I hope I have the chance to be back again. It may not be forever, but would be great to be there for a long while. 3 years ago

I am thinking of going to live in Europe for the next 6-12 months. I am planning to rent out my property in England and stay in Italy and France for 3 months at a time. Is there any over 40ties out there that is doing something similar or has done something like that? 4 years ago

So I lived in the two of the most obvious European cities, but it didn’t stop the amazement. It was FANTASTIC. I spent 6 weeks on study abroad in Paris back in 05 and a whole semester in London. I just got back this summer and I miss it so much.
I can’t wait to get another chance to go back. :D 4 years ago

There’s nothing like learning the culture of other countries. It’s always better when you go with someone… especially someone you care about. 4 years ago

Badly prepared. I did not even begin to do the things I should have been doing to do this goal this year. I sabotaged myself, I guess. But then again, some things in my life and in outside market forces made it a more difficult case than it will be for next year. And next year I will be better prepared, from my experiences this year. 4 years ago

I am waiting for my dad to send me his Danish birth certificate. When I was at the DTC, the embassy people told me that I may be eligible for Former Danish Citizen visa. I have my applications for both Working Holiday and this one ready to go – almost, I have a few things to get into the package with the birth certificate – and I’ve been waiting. It’s going to take 6 – 8 weeks to process. I should have done this in April, what an idiot I am. Still, the real limiting factor is not the timing of the visa, but whether I can have my house rented out or with 3 roommates to take care of all the bills while I am away. So I can get the visa in late July at the earliest, only to go for one month, or five months, in order to be back in time for the beginning of a semester for school.
Still, I should schedule in 4 hours per week – 1/2 a day – to look at DK jobs to apply to from here. Luck would have it if I got hired. 4 years ago

I take this as a notice from the gods that now is the time I implement my “go to Europe” plan. I have nothing tying me down but the house, which I can rent out, and so I would be a fool to stay. So I apply this week for my visa, and I use the contract to familiarize myself with the Danish economic landscape so that I can get a job of some sort as soon as possible when I go. 4 years ago

It is impossible for me to forget that this is one of my major goals. But it’s not for the next three months. I will take this goal off my list until May when I have to begin thinking about the June – September block, being better armed with knowing about my work and money status. 4 years ago

I have more sterling than I know what to do with – and when I went over in June, I changed money into £ notes, but didn’t think to search my change collection. I’ve since bagged it up into different continents, but Europe’s bag is huge. There are a lot of coins I can’t spend anymore – I have about $15 in Francs and who knows what all else. I also brought a Euro coin of every origin back with me, and maybe they’ll come in handy at the front side of a trip.
I carry a 50 øre coin from Denmark in my wallet as a charm to return there – and make money, of course. 5 years ago

I’m living in France at the moment, and as of February next year I’ll be in Italy until the summer when I’m off to Spain.
Language degrees rock!
It’s frickin’ scary though, and some days you don’t even want to go outside because you can’t understand a word anyone’s saying to you. Then you have a conversation with a shop assistant and the whole way home you’re thinking “she actually understood me!! :D”
Ups and downs, just like pretty much any experience that takes you outside your comfort zone! Well worth it, though. If only for the crepes. 5 years ago

- have downloaded the EuroPass CV and Language passport forms and templates to get my CV prepared
- have various materials I need to read regarding Denmark specifically and certain Scandinavian cinema materials
- continuing a break-down of tasks that are appropriate for the next six months
- moving later tasks to “future” list
- no Danish language courses in Montreal; have to look into Norwegian and Swedish
- would like to figure out how to make some Scandinavian friends here, and have monthly movie nights
- call Nia the woman moving to Sweden with rat boys and movies/TV DVDs
Edited to add:
Things are flowing, so far. For which I’m both incredibly grateful and anxious. I think my progress reports for the next five months should be almost entirely related to where I am in my field of work.
Also, there is a certain redundancy between this goal (adopted perhaps in May or July 2006 with no time frame) and Have a different life by this time next year (adopted in September 2006)
which is where my progress reports on this goal really belong, because my plan for a different life includes Europe. (Of course, I could just go out and find some random guy, get knocked up and shack up. That would change my life fer sure.)
So if there’s redundancy, what do I do with this goal? 5 years ago

I have my six-month “plan” to make, and this is another thing that will require a lot of research and foresight as well as a large component you just can’t anticipate. So no procrastination for me, just a little at a time, but regularly. 26 weeks worth. 5 years ago

I took a trip w/ my brother to Europe for 12 days. In those 12 days we visited London, Paris, and Rome. Technically I lived there… even if it was only 12 days. I plan on going back within the next couple of years. We’ll see. 5 years ago

It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. And it turned out to be a great form of birth control. I got to London and got a TNT magazine, called the number for a family looking for a nanny and moved in a week later. I looked after 3 children who had been adopted from El Salvador and Sri Lanka. It was an incredible experience both with the family and getting to know the city. Now that I’ve done the kid thing for a while i won’t have to wonder about it and will know when the time is right. 5 years ago

There is no better way to get perspective on your current place in life than to step as far away from it as possible. I have been living in the US for 12 years now, and I’m starting to appreciate it less and less. Going to Europe for a year would let me see some incredible sites, but also learn to appreciate all the places I’ve called home. Maybe I could do a study abroad program when I am pursuing my MA degree. 6 years ago
