How to find a job i enjoy

What may be right for you & you enjoy at one point in your life, may not be right in another stage of your life. It’s ok to change your mind about jobs, people change, people grow…

Life’s too short to spend most of it in a job I hate, with petty gossips.

If only my boss weren't there 6 months ago

I might enjoy it more. Sadly though I really do think I’m wasting my life sitting at a computer in a cubicle all day doing paperwork for stuff I don’t give a rats ass about.

Finding the work you love finding the life you love 11 months ago

Was the title for a class I just took at a community college in Seattle. It was incredibly insightful. It helped me to figure out what I really want in a job for this moment, and to not be too hard on myself about things in life, but to take responsiblity for my own happiness. I quit my job as a restaurant manager and set three criteria for my new job. Good hours, close to home, and good benefits. I will start a job that fullfills those requirements on December 1, after that I think I can expand my criteria and keep moving into what I love at this job or another, but if I don’t know what I want then there is no way I am going to get it.

Apparently this is a rather popular wish. To find a job you enjoy. As 99 other persons have expressed this very desire.

I'v found this.. 20 months ago

I enjoy my job. I’m a support worker, for adults with learning disabilities. I know this job will lead to good things, & is right for me at this point in my life.

With my kindness to myself 2 years ago

This is hard to do, especially now while I’m depressed and struggling in my personal life. I find interviews to be draining, and the thought of moving to a new job where I don’t necessarily have as much flexibility to stay home sick when I need to or leave early for doctor’s appointments makes me nervous.

But I know that my discontent with my job is only adding to my unhappiness, and causing additional strain in all areas of my life. This is not good.

It is a difficult situation I find myself in. I’ve let myself get stuck, and now I need to be gentle with myself and find a way to get unstuck so that things can improve, without making myself feel guilty or despairing. Great love and kindness to myself does not mean letting myself get lazy, though.

So I got this job... 2 years ago

I work for my city! So I am outside all day which I like! It is really demanding physically though! It’s all labor work. My dream job would be something where I use thinking and problem sloving skills that I’ve learned in school in the subjects that I enjoyed and being outdoors. I like it for right now but I feel useless sometimes when I am not putting very much brain power into my work! Another good thing is that there are a couple cute guys there ;)! And I guess I am toning and hopefully losing weight!

Depressingly so... 2 years ago

I still haven’t found a job! As much as I’d like to wallow in my feelings of failure I still feel positive (deluded maybe) I’ll eventually find my job of choice.

To be honest I haven’t applied for everything on offer that I could have. For example, “Wanted…Chicken Catcher” I’m not exactly sure what this job involves…but intuitively I know it’s not for me. (No offense to those chicken catchers out there).

I have noticed a small demented twitch when someone asks me how my job hunting is going and i’ve started making things up at social gatherings, like, “oh, yeah, I got work ages ago, bit of admin here, temp work, you know,” and quickly change the subject.

Maybe this is where I begin to modify my goal like “Find a job I enjoy occasionally” or “Find a job I kind of enjoy” Perhaps I need to change it to just “Find a job”. Ugghhh, I have to do something.
