I have a $5 “rescue orchid” that we picked up at a local nursery. I have been REALLY careful to give it the right water/humidity/light/food since I have had TERRIBLE luck with orchids in the past, though I have TONS of houseplants. It put out TWO flower stalks recently and now they are blooming, so I have 6 pretty white phalaenopsis blooms!

I just bought an orchid about a month ago. I named him Phil. I’m sure this makes me crazy, but so far, I haven’t killed him! He seems pretty happy on his windowsill.

I received an orchid as a gift three years ago. They’re like bonsai trees for people with no attention span. It required some regular upkeep, but the results were incredible. I normally don’t give a damn about flowers, but the challenge of raising something so fragile was worth the effort.

It’s fussy, but so very pretty. The blooms last quite a while. Remember not to overwater. Also, even when the blooms fall off, don’t despair. If the leaves continue to grow strong, chances are it’ll bloom again in a couple months (that’s what happened with my orchid).
