cacophony2011... the year I get lost in the infinitesimal world of narratives

So far:

1. The Snows of Kilimanjaro – Hemingway (to be highly recommended to those who have never read Hemingway… there is something just so unique and intriguing in his writing style)

2. The Motorcycle Diaries – Guevara (this has led to my first week of the year being one of doubt and worry that what I’m doing in life is both insignificant and perpetuating the fatalism of certain demographics)

3. The Old Patagonia Express – Theroux (Currently. Obviously I’ve fallen into an affliction of escapism and travel through narrative. Can anybody recommend some good novels, fiction or non, that take place in the Amazon?) 13 months ago

cacophonyon reading

Today I start 1984. It has been a lifetime of waiting to read said novel. More recently, due to the fact that the book exchange in Ollantaytambo is restricted to titles by Ken Follet and the likes. So, when I came across this title in the personal library of a new acquaintance in Cusco, I begged and pleaded, and after promising not to practice the art of dog earing (something that I personally encourage fellow book borrowers to do), I was granted right to the infamous Orwell title.
A couple of days ago I finished Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. A novel by Phillip K. Dick which I (surprisingly) enjoyed as it was reminiscent of Bradbury and perhaps had a little Brave New World about it. 15 months ago

cacophonyAnd the world, it continues

So, I managed to sit down in my taco shell of a bed and read an unexpected book in a few sloped sittings. As a part of my desire towards sobriety, excessive reading seems to fit just perfectly. The book: The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano. While it was a simple read, it had moments of brilliance, and for that I enjoyed it. At the end of the read, I{m left with the notion that I would like to be more like Paolo: a physicist and novelist (two things which I secretly, and yet candidly adore). If I had patience or dedication or if I were a phenomenally handsome Italian male and mathematical mastermind, perhaps I too would know success. But really, success is relative. 16 months ago

cacophonyBrave New World

It’s been a hard year yet so far for reading. The inevitable continues to get in the way; work, work, the necessities of a routine. But I continue trying to weed out our generational addiction to the internet, and replace it with reading. And to be absolutely candid, it feels oh so much better. Currently I am reading Brave New World and can’t believe that as a Bradbury fan, it should have taken me so long to read this novel. I would recommend it as I am adoring it. Keep reading. It feels phenomenal, and is truly something worth being addicted to. 17 months ago
