wen 'n poker tournament  — 1 month ago

I want to play a proper real life poker tournament and actually win it. Would be kinda hard, but practice makes perfect. Ultimately in the Bahamas like James Bond haha! Or in Vegas. Any poker tournament will do really; just have to win too.

prufock is working.

All in!  — 1 month ago

Granted, I’ve won several times in my group’s friendly Friday night game (more than anyone else at the table, actually), but I’d like to try a more cutthroat, professional-style game. I know several bars around here that host weekly or semi-weekly tournaments, and I think I might take a shot at the grand prize, as long as the buy-in isn’t too steep.

Worth doing!

Winning is always nice!

Today I came in 218th place out of 2700 people… not a win but closer to one, not to shabby for only knowing how to play for three weeks.

I know I am good, so it would be nice if I was super good. Perhaps a future in Vegas is in the midst.

Cards Cards Cards  — 1 year ago

I know nothing about Poker :O !

so i’ve decided to learn how to play XD

iv’e learned that the cards are ranked from high to low in the following order: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.

and that Aces are ALWAYS high. Aces are worth more than Kings which are worth more than Queens which are worth more than Jack, and so on.

Each player is dealt five cards. The object of the game is to end up with the highest-valued hand. From best to worst, hands are ranked in the following order:

Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House
Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair
and High Card

A Royal Flush is made of 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, all of the same suit. A Straight Flush is comprised of five cards in numerical order, all of the same suit. Four of a Kind is Four cards of the same numerical rank and another random card. Full House is three cards the same, then another 2 cards the same. A Flush is comprised of five cards of the same suit, regardless of their numerical rank. Five cards in numerical order, regardless of their suits. Three of a kind is Three cards of the same numerical rank, and two random cards that are not a pair. Two of a kind, (you guessed it) is Two sets of pairs, and another random card.

hmmm.. more on this when i get my head around it :S

Worth doing!

Went to Tunica this weekend and came in fifth in one tournament and tied for first in another. It was a huge boost to my poker self-confidence. I’m not quite ready for the WSOP, but it’s good to know I can hold my own at a table.
