The trouble with most Cessnas and Pipers is that simply are not fast enough. I took me five years and 2030 hours of construction to build my RV-7 kitplane but now it is done. I just got back from Sedona for the weekend, only 1.5 hours from Los Angeles. It is totally aerobatic, 220 MPH and really fun. Because I built it my self I can legally do all of the maintenence. Just do it!!!

Not for prestige or some ego trip, I am a commercial-certificated pilot and would love to have my own plane to fly when and where I want. I am currently in a great club, but there a lot of members and it is hard to get a plane for a day or two unless you book several weeks out.
I think a Cessna 206 would be a great plane. Lots of power, can handle 4 people with gear with no problems.
I have had dreams of flying for years – I grew up near a municipal airport and always watched the Cessna’s taking off for parts unknown. It seemed to be the utmost in the independence and escape I longed for. However, I have been traveling for business for several years and had an unfortunate “Unscheduled Rapid Landing” incident a couple of years ago – since then I have been quite sqeamish about flying and have established quite a dialogue with our Maker during takeoff’s, landings and abrupt altitude shifts. Besides becoming a new Father of an amazing 10 month old baby boy . . .
Owning an airplane and becoming a pilot is a goal I have abandoned . . . at least for the present!
I just want my baby Gulfstream II. Now please thats not asking for too much. Arrrghhhhhh
I belong to a flying club that has 40 members and 3 airplanes. The airplanes are all 4 seaters and each one is progressively bigger and faster. For flying buffs they are a 1976 Cessna 172, 1976 Cessna Cardinal (177) and a 1976 Cessna 182.
The club is the most economical way to own an airplane. Granted there are pitfalls and maintenance surprises, but over all it is a good experience. In addition, if I ever want to own my own airplane 100%, then I have this experience under my belt and contacts with the club to use a mentors or advisors.
The club is Gateway Flying Club in Anoka, MN
