When not dreaming about returning to the Anguilla, I’ve been collecting information on Festivus. Yes, Festivus for the Rest of Us.
The simple ornamentaion of the Festivus Pole, Drinking of Rum ( My fav’s Pyrat Cask 23 and Caribbean Belize White Rum ), and Airing of Greivances….
Who could ask for anything more. Or anything Less for that matter.
I better get ready and go shopping for my Pole!

No one wanted to compete in the feats of strength. I guess they knew I’d come out on top.
The pole is just too minimalist for my taste and the airing of the grievances would surely cause some hurt feelings.

But definitely fun. Instead of an aluminum pole, we used a metal yardstick we had laying around. I beat my dad during the “FEATS OF STRENGTH”—a few rounds of Thumb Wars. The airing of the family grievances was moderately amusing. The complaint about me…my feet smell. The event ended by the eating of grilled cheese sandwiches.
The festivus miracle, you ask? With much difficulty, my dad and I were finally able to get my mom to watch Napoleon Dynamite.
For two reasons:
besides, I didn’t even get the pole
The party was a bust. But how i see it, it could be in the spirit of Festivus. No one was planning on showing up besides me and another co-worker. And the bar we chose was closed for their chirstmas party. So yeah. Maybe next year for them.
We are celebrating festivus at work. We work in retail and are pissed off at christmas. So this is great. For our Festivus pole we have a guy looking through our backroom for the old pole we used to put up the letters to a marquee sign. Its going to be awesome. We also got it cleared by our boss to not play christmas music on the 23 of December. Hot dog.
But this Sunday is the big thing. We are going to a bar and having an ‘office’ festivus party. However we aren’t doing the Airing of Grievances, becuase that will turn badly quick and with the type of people we work with thats not good, and we will all have to see each other the next day.
But I’m sure we will have the Feat of Strength in the parking lot. I almost guarentee it.
What’s the protocol for Feats of Strength when your firstborn is a toddler?
