Next Saturday is my first opportunity to run a 5K. I have been training for about a month. I’m really hoping to get in at the 30 minute mark. I just hope I don’t chicken out!

I’ve been taking a slight break from running and I’m focusing on getting into a little better shape. Lately, in the gym, I’ve been hitting the bike more.

Done today in 36.5 – averaged a little less than 5 mph. Hopefully soon I could bring that average to-or-above 5.

I ran a 5K in 39 minutes today – the first time I really went for a “long” run in a while. So that means I was averaging 4.6-ish mph and that I need to train.

Today I finished my third race with my best time ever, 31:35. Having run three events now, I can officially declare myself a 5k’er! My new goal is to run a 5k in under 30 minutes!

So the next, realisitc, 5K I could run is in November if I remember correctly, and it’s the Arcadia Pride run I did last year…the one that pissed me off so much because I thought for sure I was gonna break this record, and instead I didn’t even beat my PR. Dang it. Anyway, if I REALLY want to, it’s more than enough time to break 30m if I start on May 5 or thereabouts.

This is probably gonna have to wait till next season. But there’s no reason not to pick up training over the summer. At like, 5 in the morning. Slowly.
So my past 5K race was last weekend and I finished in 30:59. I’m getting there, albeit at a tortoise pace. My ipod wouldn’t work from the start of the race and I found out that I really didn’t need it, funny enough….. Only one minute to shave off my race time to get to this goal. I’m going to keep trying!
I’m aiming for a 6.3 mph pace to get me just under thirty minutes. Last night, I was doing 6.3 and it was hard. I was trying to motivate myself to keep going, but I pooped out after two miles. For the rest of the way to the 3.1 mile mark, i did bursts of 8.0 mph running, so hopefully all of that fast running (even 6.3 is fast for me) will give me a boost for next time.
