I grew up in Australia so I saw it often. It was odd to move to the US and not see it anymore.

I really love seeing the Southern cross at night. I went out on a yacht for a few weeks last fall and saw the Southern cross every night. It was amazing. Worth doing, completely and entirely.

This was one constellation that I had always wanted to see. Finally in 2000 I got the chance. It was awesome!!

Now to work on seeing the Northern Lights and an active volcano.

I didn’t even know I wanted to see the Southern Cross until I did. I was at base camp at the foot of Roraima in Venezuela when I stepped out of the hut and started to walk to my tent and there it was. I just stood there and stared at it for a while, not wanting to move on to the next moment of my life…

There’s no better place to see the Great Southern Cross than in the country, lying on a blanket in the middle of a paddock at midnight. I do it every chance I get but then I live in Australia, so it’s not a real long trek!

Well if anyone knows Spanish real well...or Hawaii 3 years ago

One can go to Central America and go to a place that is about 20 North and one has the best of both worlds. One has the Northern Sky and a 20 degree (40 moon diameter) peiece of it that is circumpolar wirth the North Star for navigating. One has the Southern Cross. I think one gets the Magellenic Clouds too. One could tey 10 Degrees North somewhere. Less Noth Circumpolar space to look at. However the other alternative for people in the US and Canada especially on the West Coast there is Hawaii.

I get depressed when I look at those Astronomy programs because I can not relocate myself every so often to see what is there. I had a friend who went to live in Hawaii but he got bored and came back to US Mainland. I could see how if one were used to the US West Coast and its big cities living on the Big Island might be pretty boring after the pretty landscape wore off.;)

There is no excuse to not look at the sky…

Bur not so amazing 3 years ago

I live in the southern hemisphere so I’ve seen the cross since I can remember. Living in the city makes it a little more difficult. But it reminds me of my grandmother who first showed it to me.

it is there, really. 3 years ago

It’s in the southern hemisphere, I’m pretty sure. I saw it for months and months while I was in Brazil. Every night. When there was a full moon, the sky would fill with moths and bats.
