I’ve been in really interested in sign language for a large part of my life. I know a lot of random words and the alphabet, but I really want to become fluent in it. I’ve been told I have a knack for languages, so why not learn this awesome one?

I took 2 classes in college, and I enjoyed them, but I was too wrapped up in socializing to really become good at signing. I also taught my daughter when she was a baby to sign. It is a great form of communication that I would like to become fluent in.
I’ve been learning all my life from my deaf family members, but I’m not fluent yet. It’s because they have hearing aids and usually talk instead of signing, so I became used to not signing. Now I’m starting to sign more with them, and I’m picking it up very easily.

I went in for Orientation at school this past weekend, and found the pre-reqs for taking Sign I. I’m taking one of the pre-reqs this semester (Child Development / Child Development Lab), which is also required for my major, and next semester I’ll take Sign. So, we’re on the way to getting this accomplished. It’s a first step.

Instead of New Years’ Resolutions, I make Birthday Resolutions.
I have to finish this before my nineteenth birthday on 18 February 2009.
I’m going to try to take a class either this summer or in my first semester at school this fall.
i know some but i want to know it so much better and i dont know where to start.
I have two deaf siblings, many deaf friends and am familiar with the deaf community, so it is frustrating when I can’t completely understand what people are saying, although I know quite a bit of sign language already. Hopefully, I will become fluent and maybe even become a part-time translator. :)
i’ve already taken a class for two years.. but i wanted to put this stuff to use! i wish i could continue my education in this department, i would love to really help people by knowing more of the language and the culture.
Fluent? No. But I am learning a lot from my daughter as she learns to sign (she’s one and not yet talking, so we are trying to teach her to sign some things)
