annabanana is flying to georgia
just arrived in the mail, and i have to say, after just having filled out the canadian passport application form, the irish one is really, really, well, cute by comparison.
there’s a little note on the instructional page about how, in 2006, more and more of the passports are going to be machine read, rather than handwritten, but that, depending on which office you apply to, you still might wind up getting a handwritten one.
handwritten!
i want a handwritten passport! who gets a handwritten passport any more?! i love this! it’s so human.
and, unlike the canadian form, which has been so influenced by america’s recent hyper-vigilance, there’s no need for umpteen character references, or difficult to obtain separate forms if you’re shady and socially unconnected enough to use a notary public instead of all your doctor and lawyer friends as guaranteurs.
i want a handwritten passport.
everything about the irish application strikes me as an attempt by friendly, engaging, informal folk to be all official, and not quite pulling it off. in the guide for how to get your photos taken it said, “try not to frown.”
