redecorate my kitchen

and the walls a pretty blue over the Christmas break. He had already painted the dining room a great shade of red. Looking good. We have a big gift card from Home Depot – hoping to get a new stove (and possibly a dishwasher too).

There is a display shelf on my wall that is a country blue. I’m not a fan of country themes inside of the home and my husband and I loved the idea of a cappuccino theme in the kitchen. So, last week I bought a small can of black paint for the display shelf that sits above the lone cabinet counter top. So far I’ve only managed to get a few of the bottoms boards completely painted. My husband suggested priming it and I’m beginning to think it would have been a good idea. I’m already through a half a can of pint sized paint and not even half done with the shelf!

Once I get all of the painting done, I want to create a backboard for the shelf. Currently there is none and the country flowered themes wallpaper seeps through it. I was looking at contact paper, but our local wal-mart doesn’t carry anything that would go with our theme and there are no wallpaper stores around here. I was thinking about looking online for some. I just don’t want to pay big bucks!

I was also thinking about screwing in coffee cups hooks on the bottom boards since this is the areas where our coffee and tea bar will go. Easy access to our favorite everyday coffee cups!

the walls are primed. The woodwork is freshly painted a glossy white. Clutter is gone. We traded the bifold doors with a set from the basement closet.

I need to make some color and tile and countertop decisions.

Today I started painting my kitchen. Two of the walls are white now and tomorrow I’ll paint the third one black. Then I need to buy another type of paint for the cupboards which are going to be white and finally the black and white checkered floor. It’s going to look SO good when it’s done!

It feels good that I’ve finally started on this project because I’ve hated my kitchen ever since I moved into this apartment a year and a half ago. It’s been my arch nemesis and every attempt of decorating it has failed miserably because of that yellow colour. I even bought yellow candles to go with the walls but it still didn’t look good.

I don’t own a single piece of clothing that is yellow. Not a single decoration (except for those yellow candles ofc). Nothing. Because I don’t think yellow is a pretty colour. So imagine the horror of a kitchen with yellow cupboards and walls and a beige floor! Beige just also happens to be one of my least favourite colours! The horror, the horror!

I’ve bought paint for the kitchen walls so I’ll start painting sometime soon. After I’m done with the walls I’ll paint the cupboards and put in a new floor. I found a WONDERFUL checkered black and white floor which will cost me about 1000 SEK (105€, 150$, 80£). It’s kind of expensive conscidering the kitchen is only 6 kvm (square meters?) but it’s SO PRETTY so it’s definitely worth it.

What I plan to do is paint three walls including the cupboards white, one wall black and the table and shelves in front of that wall black aswell. The floor will be black and white checkered and so will the wall tiles. It’s going to look so good!

I won’t be able to finish this challenge on my set out date because I haven’t had the money to buy paint but in a month or so I think I’ll be done.

the wallpaper is off. Need to sand and do some wallboard repair. We are going to paint the woodwork next.

tried attacking the wallpaper yesterday. Sadly it was a mess. We have 2 layers – inside layer is vinyl, attached directly to drywall with no sizing or primer :( That was painted over with kilz and then papered over by a wallpaper lady who didn’t trust prepasted – she used an unbelievable amount of paste – making removal with a dif solution very tedious and messy.

We are going to rent a steamer and see if we have better luck with that.

My apartment is small but cozy and I love it. Except for one thing. My FUGLY yellow kitchen. I hate yellow and something needs to be done about it!

I want it black and white. Three white walls and one black and against the black wall I want a black table and black wall shelves.
The floor should be black and white checkered.

We are stripping the old grapevine & grapes wallpaper & border – I have no idea what color to paint yet – My whole house is stuck in an early 90’s color scheme.

Going to price out countertop & a new stove. It will be heavenly to cook in an oven that registers a consistent temperature. Having a self-clean option that actually works will be a bonus :)
