I don’t know why I haven’t been working on any crafts lately. I’ve been very tired at night, so I’ve been going to bed early. I actually haven’t started either the Stupid Sock Creatures or the outfit for my daughter. I was rummaging in the disaster that is my craft room and found a knitted afghan that I had started a llooonnngggggg time ago for my father-in-law. It’s made with 2 strands of yarn on big needles, zig-zag pattern in red and white stripes (the school colors of the local high school). It’ll do until I get inspired to do the other stuff!

My daughter seems to like it. I’ve been keeping it in the car for these cold mornings. After it was finished, I spent a couple of days moping around the house—those “end-of-project blues”. So, what shall I focus on now? Up for consideration:
- DNA Scarf
- “Stupid Sock Creatures”
- Overalls and/or dress for my daughter
I finished Square 12 this weekend, and began sewing it together. Now, I just have to decide what, if any, edging I want to put on it. Probably nothing too lacy, so my daughter doesn’t get her fingers caught in it. Maybe just a plain single crochet…?
As a result, I didn’t get to the Sock Creatures this weekend. Maybe next weekend!
And that’s about all. I have enough socks to make a few more, so I’ll count that project as done when the socks are gone!
- A hat for my daughter
- A set of 6 Beatrix Potter bibs for my daughter
- Sampler baby afghan
- DNA scarf
- “Stupid Sock Creatures”
I also went out and bought a pattern to make some overalls/dresses for my daughter. I’m going to count this as technically an “unfinished” project, because I had the fabric lying around (I had originally bought it to make a baby sling for my daughter before she was born—see how well that worked out?!). If I don’t have to buy the materials, it’s an unfinished project, right?? ;)
My little daughter is running out of bibs! I had started making her some before she was born, but then had to leave them unfinished when I unexpectedly had to go to the hospital for a C-section! They are pictures from Beatrix Potter, pre-prined on cloth panels. I’m machine-quilting them with cotton batting and a backing of Peter Rabbit fabric, then cutting them out, applying bias tape edging and sewing on velcro. I got 4/6 completely finished last night, then ran out of bias edging. But, all I have to do to finish the last two is to apply the edging and the velcro! I’ll try to do that this next weekend.
Plus, I’m about a third of the way through Square 12. I know that I ought to make 20 squares for a full size afghan, but I can’t bring myself to prolong the agony…. I just want to finish!!! So 12 squares=baby afghan.
Finally! I started square 11 a few nights ago. Maybe I’ll get some work done on it over Christmas break!
I finished most of it in the hospital yesterday waiting for my mother to finish her IV treatment. Then, I put the final touches on it last night in front of the TV. On to Square 10!!!
...and worked on my DNA scarf. This is a scarf that has an embossed double helix pattern knitted onto it. I’m about 3/4 of the way done with it, but need to take a break from it again. It’s a complicated pattern, and I need to keep referring to the directions. This does not make it easy to relax and let my mind rest and wander, which is one of the major reasons that I knit!!
Still, by going back and forth between the afghan and the scarf, I hope to make some progress on both by the end of the year.
