Okay, so technically it was The Sugarcubes that I saw, not just Bjork, but I did however have backstage passes and got to hang out and chat with her after the show!
This was back in 1992 at The Palace in Hollywood. I won the tickets from KROQ (Los Angeles, CA), and the day of the show they called me back to tell me that I was also the winner of the backstage passes! WooHoooo!!
The show was awesome! I was totally blown away at the fact that such a huge and forceful voice could be coming from this tiny little person! I don’t think any recording of her voice could ever do her justice… she is simply amazing!
Backstage after the show was quite an experience as well…. keep in mind that this was 15 years ago… her accent was so strong that at first I wasn’t even sure she was speaking english… That aside, we did have some pretty good conversation. Mostly we talked about tattoos and stuff like that because I had noticed that she had a little star tattooed behind her ear… and I remember asking her how she learned to sing like that.. with such power, you know? She told me that she’d never had a single voice lesson in her life… that that was just the way she’s always sounded…. Wow! Now that’s what I call a natural talent!!
All in all, I think we probably only spent about 10 minutes or so talking before one of the guys from the band came and stole her away, but it was a sweet 10 minutes!
Anyone considering going to see Bjork in concert should ABSOLUTELY do so! And if you already have plans to do so, be prepared to be amazed!
