Thoughts, post-completion 5 months ago

I finished this goal today by throwing out my last two candles, which were down to no more than 2” each anyways. I managed to burn several candles without burning the house down or singeing my cats’ fur. I used stuff I had, most of which were gifts from friends I care about, and it was nice to use something they gave me as a kind gesture.
However, I learned that I am too sensitive to the scent of candles when they are burning. At their very worst (which was the case with one of the two I threw out today), they make my eyes water, yet feel extremely dry (resulting in me needing to take my contacts out), and sometimes they made my face feel puffy. It was too much perfume for someone who likes things with mild scents at most.
So I guess you could say the goal was a success…but may I never have candles again!

Down to two 6 months ago

Today I finished off another one (and I think I’ve gone through a few others since my last post). I’m down to two: one pillar that’s already half burned, and one brand new votive-sized candle. I’m eager to finish these off before it gets too hot!

I finished off another candle or two and now have been focusing on a tart burner that collected a thick layer of dust because it had been so long since I burned it. Because of the strong scent of that one, I’ve been hesitant to burn any other scented candles with it, but am making use of my few remaining unscented candles.

What clutter these candles became! Never again!

I'm hooked 7 months ago

I want to get this goal completed before it gets really hot out, so I’ve been pretty dedicated to burning candles every evening. I’ve used up another two, and have made good progress on two others. I also got some more tea lights so that I can try to use up a few tarts I had in a tart warmer. It’s been nice, but I’m really looking forward to not having candle clutter around anymore.

Another one gone 7 months ago

I burned two candles yesterday and thought when I finished that one was “almost” done. When I went to finish it off today, what was left of the wick turned to ash and there wasn’t enough left to light…so I finished that one off and didn’t even know it!

Today I have another two going and both are votive size. One is unscented and one is my (former?) favorite scent which I might be allergic to… I’m testing it today.

Timing is everything 8 months ago

With three furry friends in the house, I have to pick times to do this where I don’t have to worry about them getting curious.
Tonight I used Earth Hour as an excuse and lit candles for three or four hours. It was long enough to burn one out completely – yay! Reflecting on it with my husband, I decided to add it to my list.

This goes with several other goals of mine that have to do with using up, clearing out, and being able to start fresh eventually.

I don’t even like candles, and most I had were from pre-college when I worked in a candle shop. Others were gifts: generic gifts from friends. I might eventually make a goal about being known well enough to my friends that they don’t give me just a generic gift!

Now that’s a great candle. (Thanks Thiera!)

it’s just the little things that deserve the focus.

Even candles I wasn’t so fond of were wonderful to burn. There’s just something about that dancing little flame…
Now I return to my blissful Satsuma and Cranberry fragrance oils from The Body Shop.

My goal with this is to use up three ugly coffee-scented candles I have. They’re pleasant to burn… but UGLY. So I don’t wanna see them around much longer lol. I’m almost done with the first one…
