Well, I think I’m definitely going to do this. One of the major fears I have is feeling like I’m not very attractive, and kind of being in denial in some ways about how I look. I’m biting the bullet and diving right in though.
I signed up for Painting and Drawing, a course at my school and one of our projects will be to paint a self portrait eventually. I’ve started doing preliminary sketches already, and spent a lot of time studying the features on my face and considering the undertones in my skin.
So far so good :) Tackling the actual portrait will be a different matter, but I know I can do it.

I remembered to bring up my paints, so I might be able to work on my painting. Or, at least, whenever I have the time between papers and projects. T_T

And I really enjoyed it this time as well. The hardest part is to be brave enough to try something new. This time I at least tried.

When it happens, it’ll be in oil. Painting with oils takes over your life. There is no way to do it cleanly or inobtrusively. The smell of the paint, the medium (I use Liquin) and the thinner permeates your body and follows you to work, home and bed. I invariably end up with permanent smudges on my nose and in my hair.
I love it.
Don’t know WHY I love it. For me, painting has never been relaxing. Ever. The product of my painting is a series of failures and compromises.
I still love it, though.
As far as painting a self-portrait, in a very vain way, I want everything I mentioned above to be about ME. Now, this isn’t becuase I feel I deserve the attention or that I have any illusions about my own importance. To paint a self-portrait you have to LOOK at yourself. Really look. I want introspection to take over my life for a while and take a good, hard, honest LOOK at myself.
