I got my hair cut. Short. A year ago my hair was about waist-long and I shortened it to a lob, then a bob and now I needed change.
Short hair was something I never tried and never wanted to try. But my life changed so much and my bob just didn’t fit anymore.
So today I got my hair cut into a pixie. And I love it. I’m sooo happy right now and I’m excited to have a haircut which fits my personality and my life so much.

How I did it: I had really dry and poofy hair, so I just decided one day I was sick of it and started looking at pixie cut haircuts. I don't wear a lot of makeup and my face is naturally very reddish, so when I got it cut it didn't suit my face at all. After I got it cut I also realized that my hair had been trying to tell me the whole time that it was curly, and instead of feeling obligated to straighten my hair every day BEFORE I cut it, I now HAD to straighten it in order to even look presentable. Back when stick-straight hair was everything in school, I tried to tell myself that my decision wasn't influenced by other people, but it definitely was, and since I couldn't get it as straight as everyone else I just decided to get rid of it completely, which didn't work and was the wrong mindset anyway.
The only thing that was really actually helped by it was that I met my boyfriend by him suddenly noticing my haircut in class, which was nice, but overall it worsened my self-esteem and I was mistaken for a boy quite a bit, which doesn't bother some people but really got on my nerves a lot. However, after realizing my hair was naturally curly, I switched to a sulfate-free shampoo and now completely cater to curly hair, which is much, much MUCH less maintenance than I would have thought. Before, I washed my hair, dried it, and straightened it for about 20 minutes... the whole process took about an hour. Now I take a shower, use my sulfate-free products, put some balm in my hair, and let it dry on its own (cutting my time by 40 minutes), and the results are the same every time and I feel that I'm much more myself. So I suppose I'm grateful for that time in my life because it helped me become more of myself, but at the time I wish I could have realized it wasn't about me, it was about others.

I have very strait, long blonde hair and as much as I like it, I’m tired of it. It ends up in a pony tail usually and I feel like something new. I have always loved the way pixie cuts look and I figure, why not try one? I keep telling myself that it’ll grow back if I hate it and then at least I will have tried it! Do you think a pixie cut will suit me? I’m thinking one with side-swept bangs to avoid the little boy look. My sister thinks I’m going to look like Peter Pan… :) 2 years ago
