abendlied is part wolf!

Research begins 2 months ago

I was watching “Dogs 101” last night that just so happened to feature a segment about siberian huskies, which greatly strengthened my desire to own one of these amazing dogs. In the probable years before I can adopt, my research on huskies begins. I know some basic facts about huskies, but now is time for me to hit the books and learn everything there is know about the breed. :)

As a dog lover I appreciate the beauty(inside and out) of all dogs, but one that really strikes me is the siberian husky. It is a life goal to adopt one some day.. As I have a pack of three dogs right now with a lack of a big back yard, this goal won’t be completed until me and my family move to a home with adequate space for all of the woofers to run around in.

When the time has come, I’m going to visit many shelters until I find “the one”. I think I’d want to adopt an older dog. A definite plus would be a bi-eyed husky (one blue and one brown eye) or a husky with two of those stunning, icy blue eyes, but if the dog has a good personality those two aesthetic traits certainly aren’t a requirement. When I adopt my husky, regardless of what he or she was named at the time, I already know what I’m going to name him/her: Wolf. :)

i got my puppy this autumn. [: he was born with only one eye, and the breeder wanted to make sure he went to a good home. he’s an indoor dog and knows a couple tricks. still growing! :D

When I’m ready for a dog I will definitely get a husky! I’ll probably get a rescue dog that needs a good home. I have to wait until I have my career plans worked out and own a house. I can’t get one now because I’ll be away training for half a year :(

I’ll make sure it’s happy and take really good care of it!

On today’s Day to Day show (NPR), they were talking about yoga that incorporates your dog. Looks interesting. (:

my thought. 2 years ago

ive read through the comments and find i disagree with some of them since owning two of my own.

I would say that you can have a sibe living in an apartment as long as you have the time and access to give them lots of excercise. A massive garden is not necessary either for the same reason however it must have high secure fencing that prevent then jumping over or digging under.

One other thing i would say if it hasn’t been said already is if you are not going to be home most of the time you should either get two of them or already have dogs (larger breeds as small breeds will be seen as food to huskies) as they are no good alone and get very anxious and depressed if left alone all day while you are at work.

We got two for the same reason, a puppy and a 1 year old we rescued. they are a joy to own!

My Sibe, My Baby 2 years ago

My 4 year old Siberian Husky is the furry love of my life. She is the smartest, sweetest, most intuitive, quirkiest, charismatic dog that I have EVER met. She is my child. I got her when she was 1 and these have been the best 4 years of my life!

About owning a husky 3 years ago

You may have seen Snow Dogs and decided you have to have a siberian husky. But please before you rush out to buy one, do some research!

Huskies can be great companions but they aren’t for everyone. They shed more than any other dog I have encountered. So be prepared for husky hair everywhere, on your clothes, furniture, in your food etc… You won’t be able to wear black and touch your husky without your black outfit becomming white.

They also have a ton of energy. Which means not only should they have a big fenced-in yard, but they also need walks or runs. If you don’t find an outlet for all that energy they may take it out on your furniture or walls when you are not around. You will never be able to let your husky off a leash. They are nomads by nature and will run away and never come back.

Huskies make terrible guard dogs because to them every stranger is a friend they haven’t met yet. They are also very stubborn and bore easily which makes them hard to train.

See this link for more info about the personality of huskies:
http://www.siberescue.com/Breed_Info/BPersonality.html

If after all of this you think you still want a husky consider adopting one! There are tons of homeless huskies in shelters across the country. Adopt one and you’ll have a friend for life.
