So auditions are next week and the first question I get is if it’s crossed my mind that I won’t get cast for this because Audrey is White and I am Asian. My answer: Yes, of course it has! Even though Audrey does rock a pretty rockin’ blonde hair-do, I don’t know if her race is essential to the role. After all, Toni Braxton played Belle in Beauty and the Beast! If the producers feel that her race IS essential, that’s okay too! I completely understand because it is their show! I would just like to say that I tried out and gave it my all. 3 years ago

How I did it: It had been awhile since I had done a professional audition, so I :
1. researched the part, Audrey is often seen as insecure and naive. She suffers from a low self-image.
2. watched a live production of the musical (which is different from the movie)
3. and watched the musical movie (yes, the one with Rick Moranis).
I studied her moves, read her lines with a Brooklyn accent, and learned how to audition again.
I picked out a song that was similar to the time frame, but not one of the same composer (Alan Menken) since his only noteworthy work after Little Shop is Disney films.
After, I auditioned in front of a small audience while wearing what I think fit the character. Read how I did it… 3 years ago
