I definitely just ran 10 miles yesterday training for my October half marathon. Maybe I shouldn’t bother racing the 10 mile distance—without pushing myself I managed a 1:30:41 time and felt like I could keep going. I really only started to feel good around the 5 mile mark after I started to pick up the pace a bit. I think I’ll leave this goal on here in case I find a 10-miler race in the next few weeks, but if not I’ll probably cover the half marathon first, haha.
How to run a 10 mile race
How I did it: I trained for it in four weeks using the smartcoach feature on runnersworld.com. Do not attempt this in four weeks if you are not already putting in regular weekly mileage. As it was, four weeks was hardly enough to train for a ten miler especially in Iraq heat. I completed it in 1:31:07 and could barely function the next day. Train correctly.

I’m six weeks from the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in Washington, DC. I’ve got an 8 mile training run tomorrow, and I’ve been working my way up toward 10 since December. I’m still a bit intimidated by the distance, because I’m not a natural distance runner, but I’m det.ermined to get it done
but really wanted a challenge to get back in shape. So I picked the Great South Run in Portsmouth, England, in 2004. My brother did it too, although his training schedule was a lot more sporadic than mine – I think in total he managed a couple of runs around the block!
I trained consistently and even ran 10 miles on the treadmill in preparation – which was dull! On the day it was exhilarating, adrenaline-packed and the crowds really pushed me on. I had to force myself to slow down at the beginning as the adrenaline was pushing me too fast. I managed a 1 hr 30 time and felt tired but proud. Worth doing.
im in week one of training for a 10 mile race march 29th in louisville, kentucky. so far, so good! i got my training calendar from runnersworld.com- under the training section go to “smart coach” and i put in the time I got in my 5k race that I ran a couple months ago (my first race) and then I told it when the race was, and a couple more things.. then i got a print out of my training! i am so excited!

I ran my first 10 miles in Flint, Michigan at The CRIM. It is a big race that at least about 6,000 people come out for. It is a great day and they have so many races for the whole family. It was a great feeling to get across that finish line. I ran and walked but I knew I was going to make it across no matter how I got there.
