volunteer at a nursing home

i was just wondering how old you had to be to volunteer at a nursing? and if there were any nursing homes within the area with a zip code 63376 that can use volunteers?

My name is Candace Jessica Brown and I have a great passion for helping people. I love to witness the joy on peoples faces. That is what I plan to do volunteering at a nursing home. I plan to make them as happy and comfortable as possible. It is an honor to me to be in the prescence of elderly peple because they have wisdom and knowledge of the world that as I teen I have yet to experience.

Not too sure how to go about this process but I am fascinated with people’s lives and would just LOVE to meet the elderly and listen to them, soaking up all their stories. I am fascinated with the 40s and 50s and who better to learn about those times than the people that actually lived it?

I have a couple of reservations but it is something I’d like to accomplish.

Do you just call one up and ask if you can come in?

I’ve been volunteering in a local nursing home for three weeks now, and will continue to do so. I’m there every working day for four hours, and so far it has been great. It is just so wonderful to see them happy, smiling, and knowing that you are the reason why. I love keeping them company, since they don’t really have much to do there and are often lonely. It’s just wonderful.

I’ve been doing this on a weekly basis for the past year and a half and it’s nice to know that the person I’m visiting is getting regular company when before she rarely had any visitors :(

I found a small nursing home literally a block away from my apartment. I went in and introduced myself and filled out some paper work. At first they were a little weired out that somebody so young wanted to volunteer. But once I explained my history and experience they were really excited. The elderly are my one true passion.

Very satisfying to know that you’re able to touch other people’s lives.

I did this a long time ago and would love to do it again.
