My church would like to do angel tree in our cummunity this year. Where do I get the names of the children in need?

Can someone write the link to where we can register for this? I would love to buy gifts this year for the kids. I did it 2 years ago when I lived in NYC. I just need contact info.
Thanks
My mother is the site coordinator for our local branch of the Salvation Army and I help her every year not only get everything together and do what’s needed there, but we pick a child every year and spoil them rotten for Christmas. It’s really nice to help out and give something to a child that doesn’t have much at all.
Melissa B. is a "Newness-seeking Self-improving Tree Hugger" . . . or is she? :)
You can participate in Angel Tree even if you don’t have money to buy the kids presents. When I was a younger and much poorer, I donated my time to the Angel Tree program; cut out little trees to hang on the Christmas tree, tied ribbons on them, wrote the first names/ages of the children on them and special items they wanted (if relevant), then monitored the actual tree that had the names hung on them.
Definitely worth doing.

...did an Angel Tree with the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army forwarded information on kids, including their clothing sizes and any special requests they had for Christmas. My Angel was a 9-year-old girl who wanted clothes and shoes. It was really fun shopping for her!
They have a ‘tree’ where you pick a kid and buy them a book. I picked a 10 year old girl and bought her Harriet the Spy, because that book is entirely too awesome. I’m really glad that Barnes and Noble was doing this. I liked buying a book for a child better than doing Toys for Tots. I had such a blast wandering through the children’s section trying to remember what I read when I was 10 and what book this 10 year old just HAD to have. It came down to Harriet the Spy, Matilda, and Caddie Woodlawn, but in the end I picked Harriet because my roommate said SHE didn’t like Matilda, and not everyone likes praire-related stories as much as I do.
I will definitely file this under “do it every year.” Especially now that I have more money and am able to do things like this.
You know, I really can spare $20 to spend on an Angel Tree. I go past them in the mall every year and just look at them. This year I have money to spare and I think I really want to do this.
Heck, even if that $20 puts me in the hole, I think it will be okay. I may head up to the mall today to pick one out and buy someone a gift.
