radio, tape up windows, reserve plenty of water, lots of canned food, never know how long power & water will be out or undrinkable. After the hurricane I got a lot of exercise in because there was no electricity. Tape up windows, park car away from items which may damage, do not go and play outside…

I ended up having to leave my friends house in South Beach the DAY THEY GOT ELECTRICITY. Figures right?
So, I came down to Coconut Grove (which I love, so nice) to stay with my friend Andreas at his ex-girlfriends house. She was in Finland for business and she was fine with us staying here Was without electricity the whole time UNTIL OCT. 30th!!!!! The day she returned we got the electric back on. She has a 1 bedroom house so of course Andreas and I had to move back to his apt., still in the Grove, where HE still doesn’t have electric. Luckily his ex-girlfriend is SO nice and let us come to her house last night and today to shower. Andreas is a bit like me in that we’re friends with most of our exs. Obviously good karma!!
MAN!!
It has been fun in a lot of ways. Been going to more drumming circles (Andreas is really into it), have been to lots of Hurricane Wilma parties, have met some really GOOD people. Not the fake South Beach scene at all, so refreshing.
Oy vey.
I’ll probably head to NC maybe the 18th or so. I want to stay down here for the next full moon drum circle the 15th.
Five days without electricity. Was cowering in a walk in closet during the hurricane. Gah.
I’m here in South Beach and we FINALLY got power today! Wheee-hoo! I was going through internet withdrawal. Not 1 of my friends emailed me though to see if I was all right. That’s MESSED up, isn’t it?!
It was CRAZY here though. My friends and I stayed up until 11am watching it all (2nd story, windows are barred). I’ve never seen anything like it. Trees flying around, palm trees bending halfway over, howling wind. The sky kept lighting up from fallen power lines. A transporter kept exploding, looked like 4th of July. And of course my friends and I practiced common sense and went outside during the thick of it… I could only get right outside the door because I literally would have been blown away.
And now Miami looks like a jungle. So many trees down everywhere. But we have power now!! HURRAY! Let me tell you, cold cans of Chef Boyardee can get old.
And we were SO prepared. Water. Beer. Vodka. Cigarettes.
LOL… only the essentials. Seriously though, we had all that stuff but: no food, maybe 4 candles, no radio, not enough water, no ice.
Post-Hurricane parties are the best though. Everyone’s out walking. Neighbors who have never talked are meeting each other. Random strangers getting together to party at night by candlelight.
It was bad but it could’ve been a lot worse.
And yes. I still will look for apts. here!
