let Absnasm know it's not the same without her

welcome back to the 43T grind absnasm !!

I’ve rung up Absnasm for the first time earlier today. She claimed my accent is totally mad¹. Herself, she sounds a bit like Latrina on Bromwell High, which is to say she doesn’t sound like anyone on Blackadder or Monty Python.:P

The dialing itself was a task of Elder Edda proportions. First, I had to locate the legendary oracle of whoever’s-around and ask for what I later learned is called a “country code” – 44 for UK. BluePlasticStraw pointed me to a useful wizard on the Skype website which is naturally not mentioned anywhere in the actual Skype client.

Armed with this mighty knowledge, I tried calling Ab’s landline from Skype. This call went through, but the sound quality was atrocious. I mumbled a quick goodbye - Ab’s roommate heard a growled mafia threat instead - and hung up.

I then tried my usual long distance phone card. After I dropped all zeroes, the call went through, but British Telecom informed me that the number was no longer in service. Curious. I then tried the 101 8888 011 44 phone number thing Interrobang had suggested earlier. Same outcome.

Several permutations later, I was rather frustrated. Finally, I decided to call Ab’s mobile instead. That call went through fine, she picked up, and we had a lovely brief chat about showering and pancakes.

I do intend to bother her again at a convenient time. You know how we colonials can never get enough of proper British accents.:)

One of the reasons I love abs is that she is one of the two people - either extant and extinct - who is smarter than me. It is a noteworthy achievement.

Someday soon, I shall surpass her. Oh, how I shall laugh then. Muwahahahhahahahah.:D
